Experienced Maths tutor who focuses on comprehension
I am a Maths tutor with four years of tutoring experience and a degree from a Russell Group university (University of Edinburgh).
I teach because I love interacting with students, sharing ideas, and expanding students` comprehension. I build students' confidence with my methodical approach to tutoring, using carefully-chosen questions to stretch them so that they are always building on a solid foundation of prior knowledge.
School education too often focuses on algorithmic approaches to mathematics, which require rote-learning and tend to put students off, as well as missing the whole point of studying mathematics; it should be about empowering students to make sense of their world.
Instead of expecting my students to memorise algorithms, I focus on teaching them the concepts behind the algorithms they need to use. Understanding concepts means that remembering associated "rules" requires far less effort (as they make sense), and allows students to develop a real enjoyment of and confidence with mathematics, to use what they have learned in novel situations, and to remember and build on taught concepts in future. My approach means that students make fewer mistakes, can apply their understanding to unusual questions, and retain more of what they learn.
Anna is very happy with her tutor. She has made a lot of progress. Anna's school called me and they said that Anna is confident on her work and they can see the progress she has made now. I recommend Zulekha to anyone
