About ZOE
Hi, thank you for looking at my profile.
I specialise in helping children and adults with English, maths and general study skills, and over the past few years have achieved some excellent results.
I am very experienced, having worked with children and young people for 16 years in a number of roles: key worker at a pre-school, supply nursery nurse, supply teacher, class teacher, private tutor, nanny (UK and abroad) and more recently as a university support tutor.
I have a very calm, patient and friendly approach to tuition. I will explain things as many times as needed and use a variety of methods to make tricky topics memorable. I build excellent relationships with students, and they look forward to my sessions.
I use a range of resources and approaches, taking into account student preferences and different learning styles.
My specialist subject is English and Special Educational Needs. I am trained to teach dyslexic students, and have completed further training with the British Dyslexia Association on how to assess and teach learners with dyscalculia.
I am currently working as a dyslexia and study skills tutor at a number of local universities and tutoring privately at the weekend. I am supporting students who have a range of situations and needs. These include:
*dyslexia
*dyspraxia
*dyscalculia (difficulty with maths)
*self esteem or confidence issues
*children who struggle at school due to emotional or behavioural issues
*children who have missed school for various reasons
*children who are home educated
*adults who want to `catch up` or improve their English and maths
*college and university students who need support with essay writing, proofreading and exam revision techniques
I taught in an inner city school for 8 years. Here, I gained experience with children aged 3-11 and their parents, from different backgrounds and cultures, and with a wide variety of needs.
I have also worked with many students to overcome confidence and self esteem issues, both in the classroom and as a tutor.
Over the past 4 years in my role as a tutor, my students have made excellent progress in terms of confidence, catching up with age-related expectations and achieving the desired level or above in 11+ or Year Six SATs.
As well as teaching, I have worked in a variety of settings as a nursery nurse and nanny. I have been able to build excellent relationships with parents and children and am still in touch with families that I have worked with over the years.
