A tutor who uses a patient step by step approach to tutoring

A fourth year Engineering with Business Finance student at University College London who considers maths his strongest subject. I used to find maths extremely difficult to understand and as a consequence of a lot of drilling by my father and a lot of practice, I have developed a very strong appreciation of the subject and have consequently performed very well through my GCSEs and up to my latest maths-based module at university. I am confident that I can impart my techniques onto any student struggling to understand maths because I have been through the exhausting process of getting it wrong and eventually finding the solutions to my problems. Although memory plays a part in understanding maths, a structured approach to learning usually creates better and more stable understanding, and my approach is always structured and easy to follow.

NOTE:
I have formally taken exams on the following Edexcel A-level maths modules: C1, C2, C3, C4, D1, FP1, M1, S1, FP2, M2, S2, S3.

Teaching experience
Most of my teaching has been casual, but there were occasions where I taught formally.

Examples of formal teaching:
As part of my A-levels, I volunteered to help my maths teacher with teaching a struggling bottom set year 8 maths class and spent an hour a week throughout the year helping them with their problems. Another example was when I volunteered to help my ICT teacher teach an ICT class preparing for their GCSEs, also for an hour a week throughout the year.

Examples of casual teaching:
I have sat at home for long hours teaching my sister and constantly coming up with new ways to rally information onto her. I have also helped fellow classmates at school and at university with their maths problems, and on several occasions, I tutored a few friends outside school hours in their preparation for maths exams at A-levels and also at university level. I have a tendency sometimes to put other people's problems ahead of mine and have therefore contributed a lot of time teaching others. A good indicator of my teaching abilities is that I have been the go-to person when people have found problems over the course of the past five years of my education, and I have also been approached by others who I did not know, for help.

Reliable and Patient Mentor

Yousef is a friend who is in the year above me at University, who has helped me countless times during my degree on tutorials, coursework and understanding difficult concepts. Yousef has always made time to help me whenever I asked for it in his busy schedule, and was incredibly patient with me when I did not understand something. He is always punctual and reliable and he always followed up on me to check if I had understood his notes, which were very clear and organised.

Excellent Tutor

Having studied with Yousef over the last 3 years, I can highly commend his abilities as a tutor.

Firstly, he is excellent in mathematics, understanding very high level concepts very quickly and performing well both at A-level and University level maths.

In addition, Yousef is a very compassionate and helpful person. He has helped me throughout my three years by giving sound advice and assisting me whenever I needed help.

His abilities were further demonstrated through his work as a transition mentor, a position in which he excelled.

In conclusion, I am happy to say that Yousef not only has excellent work ethic, but also has the ability and motivation to be an excellent tutor and I greatly recommend him.

Calm, patient and knowledgeable Maths Tutor

Yousef helped me a lot in the first year of our degree. I particularly struggled with the highly maths-intensive modules as I did not do Further Maths at A-Levels. Out of a class of about 130, Yousef was the only one that had the patience to go through topics with me and I'll forever be grateful for his support. I observed how he endeavoured to make our meetings engaging by testing my understanding with example questions and incorporating real life examples.

I would highly recommend Yousef as a Maths tutor. He's one of the few tutors that I've encountered that actually has a methodical approach to covering content. I believe you'll be in good hands with Yousef as your Maths Tutor.
