About Yaren
Currently a final year Anatomy student at the University of Glasgow who would be happy and willing to help other students succeed in their education with regards to the Biology field. As a biology enthusiast myself, I begun my endeavours at national 5 to higher and then proceeded to pursue fundamentals in biology, genes, molecules and cells as well as anatomy as an undergraduate student. With this, I have substantial knowledge on various aspects of biology. Having taught students before, I am confident that I am able to cater to the needs of each student through tutoring and mentoring them, to aid their education.
As a final year undergraduate student, myself, I believe that the most fruitful way of reaping the benefits learning biology is through continuously testing yourself from time to time. Studying solely through reading materials in the textbook, however accurate and informative it may be, can be quite boring and may deter the student from developing an interest to study the subject. I also teach through the use of multimedia, as several studies have established a positive relationship between multimedia usage and long-term memory to aid efficient learning, as a means of supplementing the traditional learning methods.
Having mentioned these, my approach to teaching students would be through engaging materials with the students through the curriculum textbook and online sources, as well as setting tasks for them on a weekly basis. Then, this will follow with a series of printed tests which we will go through over each session, to ensure that the student has grasped the content well. Besides that, during each session I would go over any questions the student may have and clarify it for them until they have grasped the material well. Through my experience, I strongly believe that students will gradually iron out the gaps in their understanding in a more interactive way and thus, obtain a long-term understanding of the subject.
