About Willow
Hello, experienced and fresh singers!
If you are interested in fun vocal lessons that will help you grow, you are in the right place.
If you have ever had a bad experience learning music before, stressful lessons, low self-esteem or somebody telling you cannot do it - let me help you find joy through singing again.
Whether you prefer jazz, classical, pop, rock, musical theatre, death metal, or other styles, I am happy to teach them all. All styles of music are beautiful and I would encourage you to experiment or try out your voice in different ones.
I am qualified to teach ages 5 - 99 through music grades 1 - 8 (ABRSM; Trinity; Rockschool), as well as university level and beyond. I have experience teaching individually as well as in an ensemble and class of 30. We can arrange lessons at your location or my home studio (in Milton Keynes), whichever you prefer.
I believe in positive reinforcement techniques and making lessons fun, at whatever level. While vocals would be the main subject of lessons, we would also cover music theory.
We would focus on:
• Pitching - singing in tune
• Developing tone and range
• Different breathing techniques
• Expanding repertoire and different styles
• Lyrical interpretation
• Stage presence
• Understanding harmony
• Personal development
• Self-analysis
You are the boss, and I will make sure the programme, pace, and style suit you, I will make it challenging, yet fun and rewarding.
My ultimate goal is for you be able to make your own musical decisions, improve with self-feedback and give you the tools to become your own teacher.
A bit about me:
I am an active London-based jazz singer, running a seven-piece jazz, funk, fusion band, as well as participating in various jazz/pop bands and ensembles. I perform regularly at jazz clubs, such as Spice of Life, Jazz Cafe POSK, as well as London Jazz Festivals.
Having studied classical vocals at Lithuania's National Music Conservatoire for four years, I realised that jazz was not just a fling but a deep burning passion and soon to be my profession. In pursuit of this career, I came to London College of Music to study jazz vocals with the amazing Tina May, Iain MacKenzie, Pete Cook and Pete Churchill. I graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Music with Honours First Class degree and have been awarded a First Class Licentiate of the London College of Music. I recently finished a master's MMus degree in Music Performance with distinction through a scholarship programme.
Looking forward to hearing from you, even if you just want to chat and discuss.
Kind regards
Willow (Vilija) Leitanaite
P.S. Quick piece of advice: Many music teachers teach out of necessity because they are not successful enough as musicians to make a living. Be careful when choosing a teacher and find one, who emits passion and love for the profession! Otherwise, you might have a negative experience with learning music, especially damaging for young children. I specialise in working with those who might have had their confidence harmed by such experiences.

Since my first correspondence with Willow, she has been consistently professional, reliable, friendly and extremely capable in her tutoring.
After a beak of nearly 25 years from singing, Willow has helped me re establish my singing abilities, and with her gentle encouragement and warm enthusiasm, she has helped build my confidence in order to return to the choir.
Willow is an incredibly talented, experienced and gifted singing tutor, who is clearly accomplished and with patience in abundance.Willow has been teaching me on a weekly basis for 2 months now. I absolutely love our lessons they are so much fun (and I have no singing experience and a low monotone voice). Willow is teaching me so much about my voice, she is much more than just a singing teacher, she is very insightful, charismatic and understanding of the barriers to where I want my voice to be. I went to Willow originally to gain confidence in my speaking voice, and overcome public speaking anxiety, which Willow is so much more knowledgable and great at teaching than I could have ever expected. I am now also really enjoying gaining more technical knowledge about my singing voice. I can't tell you how much fun our classes are and how beneficial they have been to me - So happy to have found such a wonderful positive teacher!
Willow is professional, knowledgeable, fun, energetic and patient. I was very nervous about having lessons, and initially was looking for just a few tips to help me with my occasional karaoke!
Willow put me at ease immediately, applied no pressure and kept her advise and critique simple and positive. This encouraged me back for more lessons. Roughly 10 months on - this weekend I’m about to do a 2nd charity music festival, performing on stage singing some favourite Rat Pack and other songs!I could highly reccomend Willow as a dedicated teacher and talented musician. Not only she demonstrates professional approach in teaching that is supported by years of experience and solid education, but also she applies strong pedagogical skills in her practice. She is a warm person passionate about sharing her knowledge and passion for singing. I have no hesitation to admit that lessons with her are incredible experience that is both fun and developing.
