We took our children (age 7 & 8) out of school for 2 terms, whilst we went travelling on a family sabbatical.
On our return we wanted to find a tutor to review our children's academic levels and put together a plan to fill any gaps and build confidence in their approach to school and learning.
I'm delighted we came across Will as he's exceeded all our expectations. From the very first session his enthusiasm won the children over and his subsequent insights in their abilities and where focus was required put any parenting concerns to rest.
I cannot recommend him highly enough. Will is a really excellent tutor and we feel so pleased he is working with Tommy. He has listened carefully to what we wanted to achieve from the tutoring and gone above and beyond normal expectation of his role, he met Tommy's Year 2 teacher and chatted to her in order to get a background on where he was at school and where he might be able to help support Tommy's learning. He has a wonderful rapport with Tommy and makes sure that the trust and confidence of "Will as his friend" then transcends as " Will as his teacher" - and Tommy after the first session asked if he was coming back the next day! The learning was fun and woven in through play at times. And Will is able to fit in to the colour and chaos of family life and is a pleasure to have at home - supporting at times his little brother Alfie by offering to read to them both and engages so naturally with both children. As Tommy moves in to Year 3 we are looking to increase the support Will offers Tommy by having him for longer each week such is the value that he offers his Key Stage 2 learning. He is a great support and guide and sensitively moves to Tommy's beat and pace.
Will was given the rather difficult challenge of being a temporary tutor to our 9yr old son who is at prep school. Our son is able and creative but easily bored and was not particularly interested in his studies at that point, so the brief for Will was not just to go over material and raise grades, but more to make learning interesting and to help our son sharpen his mind and ability to engage with academic work in a more interested manner. Will achieved this magnificently, and our son really enjoyed his time with Will, which was the greatest surprise and a strong measure of Wills ability to engage with children academically in an interesting way. He has a good style of communication which doesn't intimidate or bore children, yet manages to get them to think and work.
