An experienced tutor who makes learning fun

I have been tutoring professionally since 2011, and recently returned from two years full-time residential tutoring in Saudi Arabia. In this position I worked daily with three boys in years 6, 8 and 10, preparing them successfully for internal and external examinations, including International GCSEs. With six years tutoring experience with clients of all ages and abilities, I have developed a strong ability to tailor my teaching to the needs and aims of all my students.

I aim to make it my mission to put the interest back into learning. I want to help my students see for themselves the amazing possibilities that they are opening up for themselves by choosing to actively engage in their studies. When a student is engaged in a topic, their capacity to learn and retain information is infinitely greater and - what's more - they enjoy the process!

I have been working in education since I graduated in 2011, both in the UK and abroad. I have been lucky enough to be given experience in teaching a very wide range of students, from primary school students to those at 11+ and 13+ level, sitting private school entrance, GCSE and A-level exams, as well as university students and adult professionals.

While the material and approach required for each of these students often varied dramatically, what I have found is that for every student I have taught, there are three key factors that largely determine their level of success in - and enjoyment of - a given subject. These three pillars of rewarding learning are CONFIDENCE, CURIOSITY and TECHNIQUE.

I am sure every experienced tutor will have a story about a student whose level of confidence was seriously holding them back in their studies. Lack of confidence can result in an unwillingness or inability to learn new information, or even engage at all with a subject. When confidence is developed, a student can improve dramatically over a short period of time, as previously daunting tasks now appear manageable, and intimidating questions are approached in a calm and methodical way.

Curiosity is another gateway to improvement. When a tutor manages to find a way to engage the student's interest in a topic, learning new material shifts from being a tedious necessity to an enjoyable exploration of new ground. From learning new vocabulary to memorizing equations or historical data, the way in which a student engages with the material is key. A large part of any tutor's task is to find the right way to present the material so that "I HAVE to learn this" becomes "I WANT to know this".

Lastly, technique. While this may seem self-explanatory, it would probably surprise many students (and parents) quite how many marks are gained or lost due to technique, both in exams specifically and over the course of the school year in general. Technique is vital when it comes to organising time, collecting information on a given topic, organising revision and responding to questions in tests and exams. Developing good habits in the long term and learning what techniques best suit a particular student or a particular subject can make a huge difference in the outcome.

Every student is different. They are at different levels, they have different aims and they usually require very different approaches. One student may be confident in a given subject, but lack the technique to demonstrate their knowledge. Another student may be very interested in a subject but lose confidence in the classroom and begin to fall behind. Whatever the specific situation, I strongly believe that every student will benefit from developing these three key factors. And that's what I'm here for.

He is a good teacher!

Will worked at Educo Center, a language school, as an English Teacher in 2011. He taught English to Spanish students aged from six up to adults.
Will prepared the lesson plans and worked with the four skills required to learn a foreign language: reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Our students were very happy with him and more motivated to learn English. The lessons he prepared were enjoyable and he managed to animate the class, whilst still keeping discipline. He constructed lesson plans and implemented them in an effective and constructive manner.
He was involved with the learning progress of all our students.
Will taught in an easy way and the students could follow the lesson without problems, taking into account that English was their second language.
I have got many years of teaching experience and I can say that he is a very good teacher. He is prepared to handle any lesson.

An excellent teacher

Will helped my son prepare for his GCSE Spanish after he had a disappointing performance in his mock. I only have good things to say about Will. He is an excellent teacher, very reliable and was great at developing a relationship with my son and rebuilding his confidence. Will's work was very focused on the GCSE curriculum and what was required to obtain a good result. He had lots of tips and my son says Will got him to were he needed to be to do well. To conclude I wholeheartedly recommend Will - you would be lucky to have him.

Outstanding tutor

Will was our son's tutor from December 2013 till August 2015.
We come from a foreign background, settled recently in London, for my husband and I English is not our native language. Our son couldn't speak a word of English 3 years ago. Thanks to regular tutoring with Will, on a weekly basis, our son was able to be offered a place in one of the most prestigious college in England. Will has done amazingly well with our son. He was always on time, always in a cheerful mood, and always efficient. He could do well with our son whenever our son felt, even when he was bored, tired, overwhelmed with the challenge. They have achieved a great deal together, and we are more than thankful to Will who was so brilliant.
