About vural

Why I am interested in philosophy, computers and science?

When someone asked me why I was interested in artificial intelligence, I used to state my reasons in detail. However, words were not able to explain my passion clearly. Now, whenever someone asks me the same question, I explain them in a very superficial manner. My passion for computers started when I was in 9th grade. This seems to be interesting to many since there was not any computer at my secondary school back then which is in the eastern part of Turkey in a disadvantaged part of the country. When I first started using a computer at high school, I was fascinated. I insisted on my father to purchase a computer for me so that I could play computer games. After a while, playing games started boring me and pushed me to do something different. I didn’t know anything about programming back then but by imitating someone’s hack style, I hacked my parents’ messenger and game accounts with a curiousness of a teenage boy. After I gave their accounts back, I was feeling more enthusiastic for computers. That’s how it all started.
While I was researching for Avicenna’s ideas at university, I came across Khwarizmi’s life, and the concept of Algorithms. The logic of algorithms impressed me and led me to specialise in computer science. When I moved to Istanbul for my undergraduate education, the metropolitan lifestyle forced me to think about the meaning of life. Fluctuating ideas between being nothing and everything led me to become accustomed to ideas of rationalist philosophers like Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Al-Farabi, and Avicenna. After coming across Khwarizmi’s ideas and principles of algebra and algorithm, I had begun to research more on artificial intelligence. Observing others made me realise that some people have really basic algorithms for living. After watching Matrix, I felt inspired and thought that I could make/build a artificial life. I believe that artificial intelligence part of computer science will revolutionise the world in the next few years through epoch-making developments as did electricity and internet.
The joy that I get in sharing my ideas and discussing with others on various fields such as science, religions, philosophy, engineering etc. made me realise that I am bound to become an academician and a lecturer.
