About Vanessa

I am a 2011 graduate from the University of Edinburgh, with a First class degree in Geography. I am currently studying for a Masters in Urban Regeneration at UCL, and consequently am passionate about learning and proficient at critical analysis - interrelating different disciplines to solve problems. I therefore believe it is important to draw on the candidate’s strengths and build their confidence to instill a can-do attitude and make any challenge less daunting. I also think that being a current post-grad student makes me more patient and relatable as a tutor, as well benefitting from a more flexible tutoring schedule.

Previously, I worked for 3+ years in the fast-paced advertising industry where I have worked on a number of recognizable brands, such as BT and General Motors. This client-facing exposure has helped me develop strong communication and presentation skills, which I like to inject to my tutoring – recognizing the importance of visual and creative ways of learning such as brainstorming, mind maps and other learning and memory aids.

I am results driven and I know the UK public school and university landscape very well – having experienced it myself as a pupil of Godolphin & Latymer. I appreciate the immense and increasing pressure children are now experiencing to get into the school or university of their choice. I subsequently find the process of helping with examinations, personal statements and interviews rewarding, and focus on addressing those last-minute nerves or lack of confidence by making each lesson engaging and encouraging clients to ask questions at any point.

One of the challenges of attending a London school is the lack of one-on-one time in classes – meaning that children either feel swamped with information or a feel a lack of direction. I consequently tailor my tuition for each client differently – establishing personal goals upfront and recognising that everyone learns in different ways. Consequently, my aim is to not just to provide additional support outside of school hours, but to arm each client with the confidence and learning tools to improve their experience at school.

I tutor across a wide variety of subjects - having taken the International Baccalaureate at school and subsequently studied both science and arts based subjects to a high level.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or would like to see my full CV.

Slots on the system are only guidance - do message me if you don't see one that suits and I will rearrange and create one. If you could include as much info about your child as possible when booking, that would help me prepare in advance.
