About Melody
I am a patient and friendly teacher experienced in teaching children with special educational needs with the knowledge I gained from my undergraduate study in Counselling and Psychology and a course of music therapy in Hong Kong Academy of Performance and Art. For example, I had three students who suffered from emotional disturbance because of Social Anxiety Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and the loss of family member respectively. After showing my understanding and empathy, they became more cooperative and proactive in lessons. This revealed the importance of rapport in education, which is something I value the most in teaching, and these teaching experiences prompted me to incorporate my counselling knowledge into music education. Not only can my students have a platform of self-expression, I can also understand their students through music, going beyond the nature of music education.

Hello :) This is Melody from Hong Kong. I am now living in London and pursuing a postgraduate degree in University College London (MA Music Education). With the passion and determination in music, I have obtained a diploma of piano recital in Trinity College London and a qualification of Grade 8 Music Theory in ABRSM, serving as the fundamental knowledge for further development in the education industry.
I have become a piano teacher for more than 4 years in a music centre and for private lessons. My students are from different background and aged from 3 to 55, so you don't have to be worried if you are a beginner or adult students. It is never too late to follow your passion and I will be here for you to reach your goal! If you are intermediate/advanced student, I am also experienced in preparing examinations of ABRSM and Trinity College London. From grade 1 to diploma level in both piano and music theory, I would love help you and improve your performance with my knowledge and techniques in achieving good grades.
Apart from my musical knowledge and experiences, I am also keen on teaching language and communication skills. My mother lounge is Cantonese and I can speak Mandarin/ Putonghua in a native level. If you are interested in Chinese language or you have any problem in any problem, e.g. pronunciation, vocabularies, grammar, in dealing with your examination or handling your daily conversation, I can definitely help you with my bilingual ability. I can offer translation work and exercise for your better understanding.
For those who are struggling in IELTS (International English Language Tests), I am also here for assisting you to obtain a higher band score. I scored 8.5 in Reading and 8 in listening, so I am able to give you some advises and skills in getting your ideal score.
