I am a newly qualified teacher who's specialise in teaching KS3 and KS4 Maths to 11-16 year old children, in a Catholic School located in south east London for two years now.
I have started tutoring way before I started my teaching career, but only to my relatives' children but ever since I settled down in teaching, I would like to expand my horizon in tutoring field.
My goal as a tutor is to help my students developing a deep understanding and confidence in answering exam questions and being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems to help better prepare for the new GCSE and A level Maths curriculum.
My approach varies depending on the student’s needs and learning style. However my teaching strategies is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples to support their engagement wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence increases. I use probing questions and examples to check understanding continually. I don’t lecture to students or ask them to memorise things, because this is certainly not an effective approach to get students to learn.
I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student’s understanding and technique.
I also test student’s comprehension through additional problems and interactive games, since learning does not merely about answering questions, learning also happens through fun activities, because it can greatly increase their level of engagement and interest.
