About Tilly
I am an English and History graduate from the University of Leicester and a recent Goldsmiths University of London English PGCE graduate. My teaching proficiency is primarily in English GCSE (specialism in AQA and Edexcel 9-1) and A Level English and Film Studies. I am an experienced teacher, having taught in several secondary schools to all abilities.
My experience started as a teaching assistant, aiding students with special educational needs in their lessons and with interventions. I have developed methods of teaching that are not standard because of this, and can use creativity, music and images in a way that appeals to all. I have also been prevalent in several severely SEN lessons where students need extra support at every point of the day. I can work with these students and provide extra emotional support that is vital for their progression.
I entered teacher training in a school with exceptionally high ability learners and was able to challenge and push them to learn and process more advanced ideas than they had previously contemplated. I was able to make their lessons engaging through conversation, questioning and theory, keeping their interests firmly held with creativity, film and media.
My next position was in a mixed ability school with several different classes. I managed to create a great working environment for the students, and they expressed feelings of happiness while learning in the classroom. These lessons were productive for the students, especially the GCSE cohort who learnt difficult vocabulary and techniques to use in their exams.

My teaching method varies based on the student. Some students enjoy learning through play, some prefer a more rigorous written approach. With English GCSEs revolving around written skill in a timed environment, I believe it is imperative to teach students to hone their timed writing in order to succeed. This is best facilitated in an environment free of stress and fear, so I try to foster fun and friendly competition when engaging in these kinds of tasks.
