About Tilele
I am a full-time environmental scientist with a passion for sharing scientific knowledge. As a Chartered Chemist, certified by the Royal Society of Chemistry, my contribution to the chemical sciences is verified. As a STEMNET (Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering Network) Ambassador, I volunteer in secondary schools by talking to students about careers in science.
I am passionate about education and science and would like to share this by tutoring a wide range of students of different age groups and abilities. My main subject is chemistry which I tutor to all levels (undergraduate university, A-Level, AS-Level and GAMSAT). Additionally, I can tutor biology at all school levels (A-Level, AS-Level and GCSE) as well as mathematics and statistics at GCSE level. Furthermore, I have experience of supporting Master’s (MSc) university students in understanding the core concepts of environmental sciences including economics. I can also provide support in using MS Excel and MS PowerPoint. Finally, I coach chemistry graduates to prepare for interviews in the chemical industry.
In the final year of my undergraduate studies at Rhodes University in South Africa, I was a tutor for first year chemistry university students; this included supervising their chemistry laboratory practical sessions. As a qualified Chartered Chemist and certified STEMNET Ambassador, I am in a unique position to offer students insight into what it is really like to work in the chemical industry. I have worked as an analytical chemist in the UK pharmaceutical industry for over 6 years. As part of my volunteering work, I conducted a chemistry workshop where I performed a bench chromatography demonstration to explain the role of chromatography in analytical chemistry (we separated the pigments in spinach!). During my recent Master’s (MSc) degree studies in environmental technology at Imperial College London, I tutored colleagues in environmental chemistry, water-related topics, and environmental economics. At work, I am the MS Excel and MS PowerPoint guru.
My hobbies include running, playing netball, dancing, listening to podcasts, and attending science talks. I am so enthusiastic about science talks, that I joined a committee at the Royal Society of Chemistry so that I can contribute to organising chemistry lectures. As the outreach officer for this group, I promote and organise attendance of secondary school students at these chemistry lectures. I am also a fundraiser for a school building project in Malawi. I made a website for the school, to increase awareness of the project, which I periodically update. If you want to see the standard of one of my projects, here is the link to the website: (concealed information)
I am a patient, friendly and enthusiastic tutor. I am a high-achiever and believe in delivering excellent customer service. You can expect to have an excellent tutoring experience with me, as I will take the time to understand your needs and fill the knowledge gap. I raise the achievements of my students beyond their own expectations. It will be challenging, but I will support you. We will both know when you have mastered your field of science because at that point you will be able to teach me!

Tilele helped prepare me for Chemistry and Biology A2 OCR exams. She came to the lesson with practise questions, a lesson plan and a positive and helpful approach to teaching. Our lessons were fun, I felt able to ask her any questions, and her explanations were always clear and concise. I would recommend her to anyone! A great experience. I have had several personal tutors to help me through these A levels, and she has by far been the best.
I have worked with Tilele at several careers fairs I have organised over the past two years in our Westminster secondary schools. At these events Tilele has represented the science sector, STEMNET Ambassadors as well as Imperial College and Imanova, and has talked with students aged 13-17 years old about the sector, job roles, and job tasks. Tilele engaged students, shared her professional experiences of work and study and answered students’ questions. Tilele was punctual, friendly and professional - I would be happy to work with her on these events again in the future.
I worked with Tilele on several projects while attending Imperial College, London.
She was disciplined and conscientious in her approach to her personal study as well as to our group project.
Tilele was always prepared for the study group/discussion with a useful example, reference or quote from something beyond what was taught in the classroom session.Tilele was a first year tutor and a lab demonstrator while at Rhodes University. She was always well- prepared and reliable - I felt I could step out the lab, confident that she would keep everything running smoothly.
Tilele was also approachable, the students felt free to ask for help at any time, and she explained well.To whom it may concern,
I would like to recommend Tilele Stevens as a chemistry coach/tutor. Tilele has on two occasions coached and mentored me through two job application processes for graduate chemistry jobs. She coached me from CV to interview preparation and on both occasions I received job offers. The first job was working for Mylan in the United Kingdom as an analytical scientist and the second job, which is also my current job, as a chemist working for Estee Lauder in Canada.
Tilele has excellent communication skills, is highly organized and is also reliable. Working with her was a pleasure as she covers work thoroughly and is always helpful and willing to offer advice.
Tilele would be an excellent chemistry coach and she has my highest recommendation.
Kind regards,
Chifuno StevensView more recommendations
