Dedicated biology tutor with over 3 years experience!
Hi! I'm Thamasha (Mash for short) and I currently work as a lab technician in a secondary school. I have a first class BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Birmingham, and have just finished an MSc in Palaeobiology at the University of Bristol (where I currently live). I am happy to tutor Biology at all levels, and Chemistry at GCSE.
I have spent the past several years working with children and young people both within and outside of the school environment. I spent my gap year working as a teaching assistant in a primary school and every summer since as a Senior Mentor for NCS The Challenge, leading groups of 14-17 year olds on three week programmes involving outdoor activities and development of personal skills. I have also volunteered for the past two years at the Natural History Museum in London, in which I engage with visitors and discuss various topics in natural history. As part of a grassroots programs I have also tutored students from difficult backgrounds in a volunteering capacity in all three major fields of science up to and including A-Level. The aforementioned roles have helped me hone my ability to communicate information in a way that people, particularly children and adolescents, can understand easily. I am confident in my scientific knowledge and as I am currently working in a school science lab, I am familiar with the content of the present curriculum.
I believe that education is fundamental to any kind of progress in life, including outside of academia. However, I also know that some subjects can be difficult to take in, particularly the sciences. As a young adult I remember what it was like being introduced to the subjects in which I am now confident, while I was at school, and how much easier it would have been with a tutor. This makes me a fervent and committed tutor and I will endeavour to help my students improve beyond their own expectations.
I am based in Clifton in Bristol and I am available from 6PM on weekday evenings and all day throughout the weekends. I am happy to travel up to 6 miles from my home, and am also happy to have students come to me.
