About Tai
I have been tutoring for over ten years and am highly experienced at all levels from primary to A-level. I went to King's College School in Wimbledon before reading English at Oxford. I subsequently trained as an actor at one of the top drama schools (Guildhall School of Music and Drama) before gaining an MA in Philosophy at King's College London. I have just completed a PhD in Sociology at the University of Birmingham with a thesis on the work of the late philosopher and sociologist Bernard Stiegler (concerning the fate of aesthetic performance in the time of digital media) which I am now developing for book publication.
I have a patient, flexible and fun approach to tutoring ensuring my lessons are individually suited to my students' needs. I work with parents to ensure that there is a clear dialogue about progress, work needed and homework set. I believe education is about teaching and learning good questions to ask, not merely correct answers to give.
I specialise in English, Philosophy, Sociology and Drama at GCSE and A-Level. I am also extremely experienced in 7-11+ admissions to both independent and grammar schools (covering all aspects: English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning and interview practice).

Perfect! Fantastic Tutor
Tai is an outstanding tutor. His patient, thorough and supportive approach has helped to develop our sons confidence and progress in the subject. He has really enjoyed the lessons with Tai and with his growing confidence has also now developed an interest in creative writing. We would have no hesitation in recommending Tai, he is a great tutor.
Subject : English
Outcome : Offers from highly selective schools including St Paul’sPerfect! I can highly recommend Tai!
Tai did a great job preparing our 10 year old son for his 11+ exam as well as our 12 year old for his 13+ entry. He mainly successfully taught them exam and revision thechniques but of course gave them also great support in the required subjects, in particular in Maths, English and Science (although he can teach any other subject as well). Apart from his academic qualifications, Tai has also been very nurturing and patient and our boys really enjoyed their lessons with him.
Subject : 11+ School Exam Preparation
Outcome : Our 11+ boy received offers from all the schools he applied for including Reeds, Charterhouse and Whitgift. Beside these schools, our 12y old also successfully applied for Wellington College and CranPerfect! My lessons so far have been good. Tai is very interactive and is very good one with explaining and helping you understand what you are doing better.
Perfect! Excellent English tutor
Tai has been a great tutor for my daughter. He helped build her confidence and made sure she got plenty of practice before her assessments. He has an enormous amount of enthusiasm for his subject and manages to make lessons fun and interesting. I would highly recommend him.
Subject : 11+ School Exam Preparation
Outcome : My daughter got through to interview stage for all the schools we applied to, these are all top tier schools. We are currently waiting to hear re final offers.Perfect! Fantastic Tutor - Strongly Recommend
Tai has been an excellent tutor for our daughter who is currently studying for her 11+ exams.
She was struggling with reading comprehensions and essay writing. Inferences were difficult for her amongst other things.
Tai's quiet and calm approach worked perfectly for her.
He is a very patient and supportive tutor. He was able to find her weaknesses and give her exercises to help her progress at a fast speed week by week.
She is a sensitive girl and he was able to skirt round and then direct her energy in the right way, in her sometimes tricky moments!
Strongly recommended.
Thank you Tai.

Subject : English LiteraturePerfect! Review from my first year A level student daughter
Tai helped me with my sociology a level mock exam, he was very patient and a good explainer. In my last exam I got an U and this time I got a B, so very happy with the improvement.
Subject : Sociology
Outcome : From U to BPerfect! Focussed and able to engage
Tai helped our son with few two hour working sessions, mostly for English. Though languages are hard to judge on short term improvement but Tai was able to nudge our son into the space where he was willing to work and learn.... Tai's focus on the outcomes is great... Highly recommended...

Tai was preparing my son for 11+ English during 3 month prior to the exams and we were absolutely happy working with him and with the results! Tai had all the necessary papers in place, had a strategy in place in terms of what we need to focus first and what to leave for later, which all worked out really well - in 3 months time my son was well prepared and passed to all the Grammar schools we've applied for - Wilsons, Sutton Grammar, Wallington and Tiffin! Although we originally asked for the help in English only, Tai was helping to review Math as well which was very helpful! My son loved lessons with Tai - he felt very encouraged, understood the topics and developed confidence which was crucial at the actual exam.

Tai worked with our daughter preparing her for entrance exams for grammar and private schools. He immediately established an excellent rapport with our daughter, tailoring sessions to her style of learning and communicating difficult ideas in a manner in which she was able to understand and process. He was always polite, communicative and willing to adapt sessions where my daughter was finding certain concepts difficult. He also provided additional resources for her to work on between sessions. We were impressed with Tai's professionalism and commitment.
We were very happy with Tai. He tutored our son for 11plus English. Tai was very engaging and provided thoughtful advice. Our son's comprehension and writing levels improved fast and he made great progress with the help of Tai. We like him very much.
Tai was recommended to us by friends, and has been really helpful in helping my son to become more focused and in particular to bring his writing skill to the level required to the top schools. I believe his support has been crucial in helping my son secure an offer from Westminster Under School, and I can strongly recommend him.
Tai was an excellent tutor my son. Tai taught English and math, and prepared my son for the admission exam of KCJS in three months. Tai was patient and kind tutor who looked after my son’s work very well. He provided practices for interview, too.
Fantastic tutoring by Tai enabled my son to achieve top marks in his English Literature IGCSE.
Tai offered invaluable help and advice to my both my son and daughter through the 11 plus process. He developed their confidence in areas that needed consolidating and offered them practical tips and advice for interview. The sessions were always fun and both children looked forward to them. The lessons looked beyond the process too and were always intellectually stimulating.
Tai's approach is simple yet brilliant - he has the ability to listen, provokes thought and draw out innate/latent abilities in each child - he is currently working wonders with a friend's son, having tutored my daughter.
My daughter initially lacked the confidence to write cohesively - she now has ambitions to become an author! My son's confidence had slowly deteriorated over a period of two years in both English Language and Literature. Within two months, before the 2016 IGCSE exams, Tai patiently and skilfully built up my son's confidence by going through past papers, showing him different techniques to answer questions and planning literature essays.
My daughter went from an unclassified to an A in English language within 6 months - she really liked Tai and the way he explained everything and gently encouraged her. She is quite shy and does not like speaking out loud in class but her confidence grew as a result of one to one tutoring.
We approached Tai to give our 17 year old daughter some tutoring support in the run up to her A level with particular support on Hamlet. He was fab -knowledgable,supportive and engaging. He gave our daughter 6 x private lessons before her A level which hugely built her confidence.
Tai is an excellent English tutor. He tutored my daughter for A2 level English. He really helped my daughter build up her confidence and her belief in herself. This meant she was clearer about what she knew and was more confident about demonstrating that in the exams. He helped my daughter understand what was important and why. Tai is very knowledgeable, pleasant and engaging. He was very reliable and made sure he kept us informed of any changes. I strongly recommend Tai
After having to suddenly leave school, I had to be home-schooled but was without a tutor, just 2 months before the exam! But Tai worked me through the content between just April and June for A2 English, including the whole of the Shakespeare play and all my coursework texts, and I ultimately got an A* in my coursework and an A overall! Really supportive and easy to work with, and makes a huge effort to know the texts he's working with well.
Tai was incredibly helpful over the last few months before my A2 exams, boosting my confidence and helping me gain a better understanding of not only the texts I was studying but how to approach exam questions. I was able to go into my exam with confidence.
Tai was extremely helpful in my preparation for Hamlet, offering annotations, interpretations and essay planning help
Tai helped my daughter with her A level English. He is amazing and really enjoys what he does.He raised my daughters grade and really helped her to understand fully all aspects of what she was doing! If I were to grade Tai it would be 11 out of 10!!
Tai has been an incredible help over the last few months. I highly recommend him to anyone studying English, I would have never felt so confident in Literature without his help!
Tai`s tutoring was invaluable as I prepared for my English Literature AS Level. His approach to tutoring made every lesson fascinating and thought-provoking. With his help, I was able to get an A.
Tai spent around 2 months tutoring my son so that he was prepped and able for his 11+ exams. He was patient and very clear when giving guidance and more importantly he was very encouraging when my son doubted himself.
