About Suva
I have 10+ years of teaching experience in various settings. This includes working at a Saturday school (run by Civitas schools), tutoring as a private tutor and being a teaching assistant for 2nd year courses on thermodynamics and quantum mechanics at the University of Leeds.
From autumn 2014 to present, I have tutored just over 80 GCSE and A-level students, both in-person and online.

Summary (see below and video for more info):
- Full-time PhD maths and physics tutor focusing exclusively on A-level
- 1000+ hours of online tutoring experience
- Create my own videos to help students with their learning
- Interested in the latest tech and pedagogy to help students succeed
My aim is to help students realise their potential and appreciate the wider significance of physics and maths. To this end, I try to impart a genuine understanding of concepts and guard against rote memorisation. In particular, I enjoy discovering original ways to present standard material, and use powerful tools such as videos and simulations to make abstract concepts seem more concrete. I strive to make concepts 'come alive' or more tangible wherever possible by using simple practical demonstrations. A favourite of mine is to use a guitar or acoustic piano to demonstrate ideas in vibrations and waves (a core topic in GCSE, A level and university physics).
I teach in a relaxed fashion, and strive to establish a bond between the tutee and myself such that the tutee feels comfortable to learn. I ensure that students have a sound grasp of the basics before moving onto more challenging topics. Material is covered at a speed which is comfortable for the student. Indeed, I encourage tutees to 'flag up' any difficulties or confusion they may have so that extra time can be spent dealing with these. As well as setting homework problems (there is no way to learn physics and maths other than doing lots of problems!), I will often set little questions in the midst of a lesson to see if the student is getting it! When appropriate, I set homework that is more open-ended/enquiry based to encourage students to take ownership of their learning. Examples include understanding how electric circuits work using simulations, and investigating mathematical relationships using online software.
I am careful in ensuring that the syllabus is covered, and have an extensive collection of past exam papers and solutions of the various examination boards. This being said, I am not afraid of going a bit beyond the syllabus (when appropriate) and teaching students more than what they 'need to know to do well on the exam'. An example of this is exposing students to certain chapters of Feynman`s celebrated lectures on physics (written primarily for undergrads) in order to broaden their horizons.
- Note on online lessons:
My online lessons are delivered using skype (or equivalent) and an online whiteboard. This whiteboard can be seen and written on simultaneously by myself and tutee, and is flexible and easy to use. A pdf of the whiteboard contents can be created, so that the tutee can look back at what was covered in the lesson.

Reliable, well prepared, kind, patient, this tutor is excellent and in addition he has the skill and knowledge to extend his tutoring outside the box to interest and develop his student to a higher and broader level. Most grateful for this and his expertise. Couldn’t ask for more.
We are enormously grateful to Suva for his expert tuition to our son for his GCSE physics exam. My son had a huge knowledge gap in his curriculum due to changing schools and Suva was committed over the course of a year to getting him thoroughly through the curriculum. My son achieved a 9 for physics. My son really enjoyed his tutor sessions and was through prepared for his exam.
Suva helped to boost my physics grade from a C to A, at A level. His tutoring approaches are unique and helped me to understand the more complex topics in an 'outside the box', manner which was also straightforward. I would recommend him to anyone that needs help in any aspect of physics as his teaching style is one which most could follow and learn from with ease.
Suva has really transformed my son's understanding of physics. He now receives A* grades without excessive cramming or stressful breakdowns that can occur as a result of failing to understand a subject despite hours of hard work. He ensures that students receive the right balance of exam technique tips and actual understanding of the topic at hand. I have found him to be friendly and keen to engage with light banter and chat with my son so that lessons never seem overly demanding to him.
Suva has been an extremely useful person in helping me understand physics to higher level and helping me progress well in my A levels. His teaching shows a deep and thorough understanding of the content relevant to course and he always strives to teach beyond the syllabus in order to gain a more fundamental understanding of course material. This has helped me gain a wider interest in physics and has especially helped me with my physics A level.
Suva is the exception to the rule - he delivered what he promised and helped my son to navigate the complexities of Maths and Physics to a high standard of understanding. I have no hesitation in recommending him.
Suva has been a brilliant physics tutor for my daughter. I have been seeing so much improvement and confidence. Since Suva has been tutoring her, not only has her confidence grown she enjoyed his method of teaching and the subject. Suva is punctual. He gave me feedback after each lesson and has helped me relieve my stress. I would highly recommend Suva to anyone.
Suva provided excellent tuition for my son Andrew in GCSE Maths and Phsics. He got a lot out of it and it motivated him to study harder for his exams. Looking forward to the results!
Suva has an extensive knowledge of maths and physics which he uses to provide in-depth explanations of topics so that you fully understand them. He has helped me achieve the highest possible grades, as the knowledge I gained from these sessions has given me the edge required to answer the hardest questions in exams.
Suva is a personable tutor who looks to understand his tutees' individual needs before proceeding. This allows him to diligently pick questions designed to expose gaps in a student's knowledge and help them shed new light on whatever they may be learning. He has tutored me in A2 Physics and Maths for several weeks now and my confidence and ability are much greater than when I began.

We’ve found Suva to be a very competent tutor for both A-level Physics and Maths (Mechanic) which were the subjects that my son was struggling with. He’s got a very easy going personality which works well with my son.
I believe Suva also covers Maths (Core) but it’s not a subject that my son currently needs help with.
Suva has taken time to address any fundamental problems that my son had with previous topics prior to starting with him. Some of these have come to light during the lesson and others with the homework that he sets so he will then make sure that my son understands each topic and will keep trying different approaches until one clicks. The homework is always appropriate to what was covered in the lesson as well as what my son should already know. This shows me that Suva is taking time to plan each lesson and the related homework. For us the goal was to get my son in a good position for his Mocks in Jan which he’s made good progress towards. We’ll be looking to continue on after the Mocks with Suva up to the summer exams.Suva has really transformed my son's understanding of physics. Suva has allowed me to gain an in-depth understanding of the topics covered in A-Level Physics and surrounding topics. His lessons would provide an opportunity to iron out holes in my understanding from what I was taught in school. Suva also provided lots of questions and notes to look at outside of lessons to ensure that I did understand the topics which we covered in lesson. Without the additional insight I gained for Suva's lessons I wouldn't have been able to achieve to my full potential at A-Level.

Unlike some tutors, I meticulously plan and tailor each lesson to the needs of each individual tutee and don't spend valuable lesson time setting homework (I set homework via email). Coupled with the quality of teaching I offer, I therefore believe my rates represent value for money.
