About Steve

Vast experience of the world of work

My experience of education and study is all based on part time study through mainly evening study and distance learning so not a typical route. I have qualifications at Masters degree level in Law, and A levels in English and History.

I have recently passed the Level 3 Award in Education and Training to understand the key concepts of teaching adults and teaching methods at a basic level, and preparing lessons so I look forward to using these skills to help students. I do have many years experience of life-long learning and I like to think it is time to help others to be inspired by learning and study and be aware of how this will help them to reach their potential in the world of work.

I have an ongoing interest in law and my own experience working in the civil service where I often applied knowledge of employment law in various practical contexts in the workplace. I would welcome the opportunity to pass on what I have learnt in my studies to any students interested in what is a very interesting and rewarding subject that can be applied to most areas of life and useful to be aware of whether you are interested in studying law for interest or future employment. I continue to have an interest in the practical side of law and am currently studying the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and happy to offer advice and guidance on what this course involves if any students would find that useful (budding solicitors :-))

My experience of English language has been acquired mainly through practical application as a former civil servant in the Department of Health withing the civil service. As a middle manager in the civil service, I developed my drafting skills, answering parliamentary correspondence, government briefing, and dealing with casework on behalf of members of staff I represented as a trade union representative, as well as checking and amending complex documentation. Thus my knowledge in these subject areas is very much based on practical application. The knowledge I can pass on to students would be based on English skills for future employability in the job market rather than purely textbook related.

I have always been interested in history and would have studied the subject at a higher level and would welcome offering support to students at GCSE level.

Hope to hear from you.

Steve Norton Reference

Written by Daniel M
I am delighted to have the opportunity to write a reference for Steve. He was an exemplary student of mine at Birkbeck, University of London. He was awarded a Masters in Research in Law in 2008. This is an advanced post graduate degree (between a MA and a PHD).
He demonstrated excellent communication skills and I have no hesitation in recommending him.
I am sure that with his wide experience and knowledge across a range of disciplines he would be able to teach many subjects.
He was punctual, courteous and a pleasure to teach.
Please let mw know if I can be of any further assistance.

i have known and worked with Steve for over 20 years, often in a very stressful, people-centred environment, where Steve brought to bear empathy, emotional intelligence and a willingness to learn.. Adept at mastering a brief, and be able to communicate ideas fluently, and take people with him, I have no hesitation in recommending Steve for a post at Tutorfair.
Happey to endors Steve's skills for the post.
