Stephanie is a self-professed geek of English Literature and proud of it! Having established this fact early on at college, she chose to nurture this passion through her studies at Oxford Brookes University where she received her degree in English Literature and Language.
Intent on spreading her love for her subject, she wasted no time in attending the University of Southampton where she received a PGCE certification and found an immediate teaching position in a reputable comprehensive school in the South East of England. After teaching KS3 and GCSE English with honourable results she took to the skies and flew to Vietnam, Asia where she taught for two years in the British International School of Ho Chi Minh City. Stephanie thrived in this world class international school studying and teaching the IGCSE, IB and attended training courses in TOK and English as Additional Language. This is where her impeccable reputation as a vibrant and imaginative teacher on the international educational circuit was born!
After achieving admirable IGCSE and IB results at the British International School, Stephanie took to the skies again and this time headed for South America where she lived and taught for five years. Stephanie taught for four years at a reputable bilingual school on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, Northlands College, where she extended her training of the IB by attending training in the IB English Literature course. Having completed her training with success, she received praise for her intelligent and creative rearrangement of the way in which her school taught IB English Literature. During her time in Buenos Aires, she taught both courses of IB English Language (both HL and SL) and IB English Literature (both HL and SL) and continued to teach IGCSE English Language and Literature courses.
During the last year, Stephanie has had the pleasure of teaching in Colegio Gran Bretaña in Bogota, Colombia where she continued to impress students and colleagues with her flamboyant and flexible style of teaching. Here she was invited to be an Extended Essay mentor and taught mixed ability students English through the IMYC, IGCSE and IB curriculums. She received a 100% pass rate with her class at SL English Language and Literature, with 85% of her students achieving a level 6 or above.
Stephanie has just arrived back in the UK and is looking forward to dedicating her time to tutoring both in person and online.
If you are looking for someone to engage and inspire your child in the study of English, Stephanie is your tutor! She is lively, fun and creative with an approachable and flexible teaching personality. Her vast experience with international curriculums, especially the IB, has provided her with an invaluable bank of knowledge and resources that ensure results. Stephanie is particularly astute at giving borderline students the push they need in their written examination skills and Written Task assignments at IB. She is also very experienced in guiding students through the IOCs and FOAs by identifying insecurities or gaps in knowledge so that they can excel with confidence.
Stephanie has 7 years experience teaching both the IB English Language and Literature course (at both SL and HL) and the IB English Literature course (at both HL and SL). She has also been a mentor for the Extended Essay during this time and, on occasion, taught TOK.
She excels at teaching students on a borderline level whether it be through identifying oral insecurities for IOC or FOA or written weaknesses holding students back in their Written Tasks or examination skills. Stephanie is very astute at planning and preparing lessons that are personalised to a student's needs with the specific objective of raising levels. She will do this by providing resources that are interesting and relatable to the student and by setting very clear goals with clear strategies. You will find that Stephanie utilises a lot of technology in her lessons to ensure students are engaged and content on a learning platform that is not only familiar to them but one that also allows for close guidance and support from a distance.
Stephanie also has extensive experience teaching students with English as a second language, specifically native Spanish speakers. She is proficient in Spanish herself and can offer personalised tuition to students requiring closer guidance when learning English as an additional language from the perspective of a Spanish speaker.
