About Sophie

Professional director offering acting & drama tutoring

I am a theatre, film and television director based in West London. Following a degree in Drama & German from Bristol University and a postgraduate in Theatre Directing at Drama Studio London, I spent 7 years directing award-winning plays in London and at the Edinburgh Festival. As a staff and resident director, I spent 18 months working at the National Theatre, as well as assistant directing at Shakespeare's Globe, the Soho Theatre, Chichester Festival Theatre and on tour around the UK. In addition to theatre, I have directed several short films and am a regular director of soaps for the BBC.

I have taught, directed and given workshops in drama schools including RADA, Drama Centre, Drama Studio and Guildford School of Acting as well as running workshops in schools. One of my favourite parts of the job is inspiring budding young actors with a sense of confidence in their abilities.

I would love to work with actors and drama students of all ages whether for audition practice, creativity coaching, confidence-building, or to give them a greater understanding of the theatre, film and television industry as a whole.

An OUTSTANDING tutor on European literature and drama

Written by Alix Wilton R
Sophie has helped me many times over the years in the field of English and European drama studies. Sophie's specialist knowledge in this area has provided me with invaluable tutoring for:

- text analysis to better understand my plays and audition pieces (e.g.: period of the piece, style, tone and meaning of the text)
- direction with audition pieces (physicality of the character, language used, cultural context etc)
- confidence building (invaluable for an actor and for which I am very grateful to her, in that Sophie taught me to believe in my talents)
- general industry advice and guidance (she has an insider's view and has provided much guidance on the subject of letter writing, CV writing etc)

Sophie is not only knowledge and supportive, she also punctual, reliable, exceedingly patient and hard-working... Qualities without which I doubt I would passed my exams!

In short, I would not hesitate to recommend Sophie in the fields of English literature and drama, along with European literature and drama (particularly French and German, as these are two languages which she is fluent in).
Subject:
Drama (Degree)
Outcome:
I passed my drama degree with flying colours AND got a bursary place at the Drama school of my choice.
