About Sheila

Why I Would Like to Teach English Language

I was lucky enough to receive an excellent education, particularly in English Language, English Literature and History, and I am therefore confident that I am particularly aware of the need for perfect sentence structure, spelling, punctuation etc. I am extremely well-versed in these skills and have published three books which required no copy-editing (apart from cutting). It would be a pleasure to me to pass on these skills, and as I am now retired from teaching and research (my previous professions) I have both the time and the energy to pass them on.
I am available mid-morning Mon, Tue, Wed and Fri and mid-afternoon Mon, Wed, Thur and Fri
Hourly rate: £25.42
Type of tutoring: In-person

Lesson cancellation: at least 24 hours notice required

A highly qualified and professional tutor

Written by Vivien F
Sheila and I taught together for a number of years and during that time I found her to be a professional and effective teacher. Her knowledge base is wide and she will be able to adapt to what is required of her. She is a very pleasant person and is very reliable. I am sure she will develop a good relationship with her tutees and enable them to realise their potential.
English Language
I am unclear what this refers to but I am sure the outcomes will be good.

Expert in English

Written by Alison O
I have known Sheila Cohen for 50 years since we were philosophy students at University College London. Since then I have made my career in editorial work, Sheila in academia. I have always been impressed by her ability to write in a clear and engaging manner and by her appreciation of the different ways that people express themselves, whether in literature or everyday circumstances. It is this perceptive approach to language that I believe has made her such a success as a teacher. She can focus on what would be of special interest to a person or group, whether of primary school age or at postgraduate level. Her confidence with language and grasp of the nuances of grammar have made her the person that I would go to first for guidance on language issues: for instance, should it be "between you and me" or "between you and I" ? So I recommend Sheila as a sympathetic and dedicated tutor who can be trusted to give expert guidance in English language in a down-to-earth way.

I am not sure what is required here, as I did not employ Sheila, but I hope that she can help users of TutorFair.
