Results matter in a results driven world. I am an experienced teacher and examiner with a specialism in English at all levels including KS1, GCSE, A level and degree level, 11+, SATs, KS2 English, maths and science. My core aim is to ensure that my students achieve their absolute academic potential. My lessons are engaging, stimulating and enjoyable. Motivation is key, and in my extensive teaching experience, I fully understand that the key to creating highly motivated students is to have a highly motivated, accessible and experienced teacher - a teacher who has the ability to inspire and encourage their students' unique abilities and aptitude. I have this ability and combined with a passion for my subjects, this makes for interesting and insightful lessons. Also, I believe that intelligence and creativity are best promoted in a safe, friendly learning environment where pupils are encouraged to express their knowledge, but encouraged to ask for help in a constructive way. Students need to feel happy in their learning, whilst simultaneously stepping out of their learning comfort zone, in order to fully expand and develop academically. My students also need to know that they are making excellent progress; they need to feel fearless and confident when asking for a recap of a topic or technique. As an experienced examiner, I have an in-depth knowledge of the key requirements of the exam boards including AQA, Edexel, OCR, CEM, and Chukra. Additionally, I design bespoke worksheets and resources based on the topics required in schools and in line with the relevant exam board marking criteria. I also use recent past exam papers, text books and the most up-to-date learning materials based on the National Curriculum to ensure that students are taught precisely what they need for their school/college tests and exams. Together we make engaging revision posters that allow students to enjoy showcasing and demonstrating their knowledge. Many aspects of learning are demonstrated on the whiteboard and students love to learn by sharing their findings on the board too. Lessons that have a strong starter with clear learning objectives are great for sharpening a laser like focus. Questions and answers that generate interesting discussion of key topics help students to verbalize, express and expand important information, together with traditional written tasks, timed tests, assignments and produce great project work.

I achieved an A* at A level and now I am studying English at Sheffield which was my ultimate dream. I would recommend Serena as a tutor as she really helped me develop a winning exam technique and helped me plan my work effectively.
Amy got a place offered in all 5 of her chosen schools after receiving an excellent standard of tuition from Serena. We would not hesitate to recommend her and Amy still continues to really enjoy the lessons now that she has moved to KS3.
Nikita says ' My goal was to sit my GCSE early and I achieved a B in year 9 as I sat the exam early.
My daughter Jas has now got her A* in English at GCSE. She is very proud and so are we. Serena's tuition made the difference. I would recommend this tutor to anyone.
