About Scott

As a teacher, I am incredibly passionate about being able to inspire and share my enthusiasm for my subjects with students. Teaching is a huge passion of mine and I believe that a good teacher can have a profound impact on the future academic and personal opportunities of any student. As a teacher, I think it is incredibly important to create a positive, inspiring and encouraging environment within a classroom. This environment strives to get the best out of every student and help each student to learn from their mistakes and achieve their full potential. In addition to sharing my passion about my subjects, I also pride myself on being a role model and mentor for students. This includes encouraging students to live a positive and healthy lifestyle and helping students achieve their full potential inside and outside of the classroom.
I have recently completed my PGCE PCET course and particularly enjoyed the teaching placement that I completed during this course. My placement was at Staffordshire College teaching BTEC Level 3 Music/Music Technology. This placement allowed me to further my development as a teacher and to continue to develop my teaching styles and methods. I particularly enjoyed and excelled in encouraging students in being as passionate about their work and the subject as I was. Being able to learn from and collaborate with other experienced teachers in the department was also particularly valuable. My roles included co leading several modules, including ‘Freelance Work’, alongside preparing lessons and assignments for students.
I have also held a number of other teaching roles, including most recently as an English teacher for EF in the Isle Of Wight. The responsibilities of this role included preparing lessons, activities and assessments for several groups of students aged between 10 and 14 and from many different nationalities and cultural backgrounds. Whilst many of these students had a very low level of English, I thrived on the challenge and saw it as an opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of the students and their future relationships with the English language. I have also worked at Stoke-On-Trent College as a video editor and project manager on two separate occasions. This included producing video content for the college and their partner company Glen Dimplex. I was also able to tutor a group of BTEC Level 3 students as part of these projects and taught them how to complete and manage video editing projects. In addition to these roles, I have also worked as a cover supervisor for Academics. This role has enabled me to work at a wide range of secondary schools in Staffordshire and Cheshire and experience many different types of classroom environments. For this role, I was expected to cover a wide range of subjects, often with little or no resources.
I have completed an undergraduate degree in Music Technology at Keele University and a masters degree in Audio Production at The University Of Salford. I achieved a distinction on my masters degree and this course enabled me to excel and develop my expertise in a wide range of Music Technology modules. In addition to this, I performed particularly well on my final research thesis. My research topic was ‘Why Are Female Students Choosing Not To Study Music Technology At University Level?’. This research was fascinating and rewarding and enabled me to gain a new insight into the mindsets and experiences of male and female students at all levels.
Outside of the classroom, I am incredibly active in the local community and work freelance as a live sound engineer, producer and event manager. I am also passionate about reading and writing and write articles online for my blog. These articles have been read by over 1,000 people from all over the world.
