Experienced and passionate bi-lingual French Tutor

*Skype lessons now available for advanced level students*

A full-time Private French Tutor since January 2010, I have worked with many students preparing for their 13+, GCSE, iGCSE, A Level and undergraduate exams. My key aim is to create a safe setting within which each student can feel free to learn without negative pressures from classroom peers, judgment from teachers, fear of criticism or embarrassment, or any other restrictions. I design my lessons around each student’s aims, interests and ambitions, keeping study sessions fun and motivation high.

I have also worked with many adults, improving their Business French language skills across a wide range of industry sectors including Law (Barristers and Lawyers), Media Relations, Finance (Finance Directors and City Traders), Human Rights Organisations, Engineering, Risk Consultancy, Events Management, Accountancy, Architecture, Data Marketing, IT and Human Resources Management. Similarly, I have worked with other adults who were learning French for pleasure. Learning on a one-to-one basis can often provide the motivation an adult student is looking for if he/she has had difficulties with home-learning resources or other types of self-study.

Every student will have different questions, different talents and will need to face different hurdles. My calm, patient and considerate approach to tutoring creates an environment where no question is silly, any worries about the subject can be discussed openly, and frustrations can be ironed out, explored and worked through. A one-to-one tutoring session also means gifted students can be pushed further than they would be in a classroom environment. In effect, it is the student who will dictate the pace of the sessions.

Prior to tutoring, I spent 12 years in the media, direct marketing and recruitment industries in sales and marketing roles. As such I am well placed to tailor sessions to include business jargon and technical corporate vocabulary for Business French students.

I have also worked on ad-hoc bilingual projects, including the translation of corporate and literary works from French into English, and a market research project in the French pharmaceutical industry. I recently translated the brand marketing/market research book 'I Love Marketing' by Cyril Jamelot from French into English.

I have a DESEM (Diplôme d’Etudes Supérieures Européennes de Management – equivalent to a UK Honours degree) from Euromed Management in Marseille, France. A prestigious and selective 'école de commerce', all tuition was in French. I also have a BA (Hons) degree in European Management (2:1) from Middlesex University Business School in London.

I have lived, worked and studied in France for several years and I am bilingual in all aspects of daily French life, culture and business.

I operate very flexible hours both during the day and in the evenings, during the week and at weekends, including school holidays. I cover most areas within Central London and South London.

I have an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate and I am also trained in First Aid At Work through St John Ambulance (valid to August 2018).

Excellent French Tutor!

Sarah is teaching French to me and my colleague (European FD) with a view to us improving communication with our office in Paris.
Her lesson planning has been well structured throughout, and we are progressing in a thought out and understandable way. We are now at the point of being able to include a mixture of reading, writing, translation and conversation in most lessons, which is great and keeps us focused on all aspects of the language.
She also has knowledge of, and access to, plenty of online resources, which help immensely.
Sarah is very engaging and proficient tutor who makes the lessons fun and interactive. She is also organised, punctual and flexible if we need to re-arrange a lesson.
We are really enjoying our learning with her and I have not hesitation in recommending her.
Regards, Bee Wilkins, UK & Europe HR Manager, Aquent LLC.

Excellent French teacher

We asked Sarah to help prepare our son for his GCSE French exam as he had lost his motivation and this was being reflected in his grades. Sarah changed all that. She is an excellent teacher with seemingly endless energy and enthusiasm for her subject. She has a positive and supportive approach which immediately engaged our son, helping him to progress from the predicted poor grade based on the assessments he had already done to his final B grade - all in a very short space of time. I would thoroughly recommend her.

Excellent tutor for children

Sarah has been seeing my twin boys, now twelve years old, for a couple of years now and has made a great difference to their achievement at school. She has been particularly good at developing their conversation. The great thing is that they always enjoy seeing her - there is no groaning when they hear the French tutor is coming!

Great Enthusiastic Fun Teacher

Sarah is great French tutor for all levels - really patient and enthusiastic but most of all ...fun! I really enjoyed my lessons with Sarah and encourage anyone in the area to speak to her as she can be very flexible for intensive schedules as well as long-standing arrangements. Sarah helped me get back on track with French to improve upon my basic school grounding and i felt much more confident. 10 out of 10.

I couldn't have wanted more from a tutor!

Sarah was recommended to me by a friend who couldn't sing her praises high enough, and all I can say is she wasn't wrong!

I took French up as a hobby, as my husband and I holiday in France most years. In all honesty I thought the novelty of studying again was going to wear off rather quickly, but 6months on I have moved my fortnightly lessons to weekly sessions as I enjoy it so much!

Sarah is friendly, bubbly and encouraging and all of our lessons are conducted in a fun, but professional manner. It's almost like learning through osmosis! Sarah is an excellent teacher and I couldn't recommend her enough.

Brilliant French tutor

Sarah is a charming, extremely effective French tutor and she was the first person able to make French interesting for our daughter who was sitting iGCSE. She engaged immediately with my daughter and gave her the confidence to speak French, turning what had been a painful, anxiety-inducing experience into something enjoyable. She always provides positive, constructive feedback and I would have no hesitation in recommending her to anyone seeking a French tutor.

Sarah tutored my son for GSCE French. He enjoyed the lessons and achieved a grade that his teachers never believed possible. When my daughter needed help I had no hesitation in contacting Sarah again. She teaches with great energy and enthusiasm, makes the subject fun, and cares about her students. I highly recommend her.

Help with French GCSE

Sarah gave my 15 year old son intensive tuition prior to sitting his French GCSE. We had been living overseas and he had only been studying the language for a year. Sarah gave him excellent guidance on exam technique. Her calm approach helped to ease many of his anxieties prior to sitting the oral section of the paper. I would have no hesitation in recommending her to other students preparing for GCSE.
