About Sarah
Committed and curious life-long learner, with a brain fascinated by the brain. I am Sarah - a 21 year-old Neuroscientist, dedicated to expanding my knowledge and understanding of the world and life.
I am currently a 4th year undergraduate at the University of St Andrews, and am studying hard towards a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Neuroscience. I am President of the university's Neurosoc and thoroughly enjoy laboratory work, in particular working with animals.
My academic interests throughout my education have included psychology, biology and neural sciences and have taken modules in Neuropharmacology, Data to Insight in the Behavioural and Neural Sciences, Behavioural Neuroscience, Research Design and Analysis, Statistics in Practise, Cognitive and Behavioural Neuroscience, Assessment in Clinical Psychology, Animal Behaviour, Evolutionary Biology and Ecology. In school, I achieved high grades in all of my subjects and obtained SQA highers in English, Mathematics, Computer Science, Biology, Art and French.
I spend my free time pursuing research of my interests, such as theories of the mind-body problem, neuropsychopharmacology, psychopathology, forensic neuroscience, psychopharmacology, behavioral pharmacology, neurophilosophy, consciousness and Myasthenia Gravis. I also enjoy engaging those around me in discussion on these topics to share my insights and listen to other views. I find it gratifying to create bridges between science and art and love designing graphics. In future, I aspire to a role in which I can express my creativity and insight and come up with out-of-the-box solutions to current unknowns in science.
I am able to effectively communicate my ideas and can speak with great passion. I draw from my creative imagination and sense of compassion to solve problems and find the best solutions to help those around me, functioning effectively both in a team and as a leader. I aim to help and connect with people and share my love of neuroscience and I believe my emotional insight is my best quality.
I establish student relationships built on trust and mutual respect with a focus on your personal development. I listen carefully and show support, talk through problems and explore options, communicate clearly without judgement, respect student confidentiality and boundaries, maintain regular contact with mentees and respond in a timely fashion.

Sarah was tutor to my son Noah as he prepared for 1st year university exams of his BSc. She helped him through Psychology and Neuroscience, and was especially good at teaching for his Animal Behaviour module.
Sarah Copeland was tutor to my two children for six months last year. When schools were closed during 2020, my young teenager needed assistance to prepare for SQA Biology exam. She also provided general science lessons for my eight year old.
Sarah was a wonderful tutor - patient, knowledgeable and engaging. My children adored her Zoom lessons and actually looked forward to her twice weekly sessions.
Sarah was extremely reliable, she was never late for a meeting, and was always open to rearranging lessons when we asked.
She followed the Scottish Qualification curriculum perfectly and guided my teenager through each step with great proficiency. The primary school lessons she set were interesting, relevant and fun.
Sarah gave both children small pieces of homework, which never overwhelmed them, and marked these with fair and encouraging feedback.
I would recommend Sarah as a tutor to anyone. Her skills and knowledge are unquestionable, but more importantly for me, she has a delightful personality and engaged on all levels with my children.View more recommendations
