About Sara
I am a professional and friendly tri-lingual languages tutor and performing arts educator, with a strong academic background and a passion for education and supporting others with their learning.
I have been tutoring children and young people between the ages of 7 and 17 in the UK and abroad for 7 years. I predominantly tutor English up to GCSE level and French up to A level, but I also teach Drama GCSE and facilitate workshops in the Performing Arts.
I have always loved learning. I enjoyed my schooldays and complemented my academic learning with classical piano and ballet training up to the age of 18. I then studied BA French and Drama at the University of Birmingham, where I discovered a passion for European culture, literature, plays, dance, musical theatre and rock climbing. Birmingham offered me an opportunity to spend 6 months teaching English in a French school where I was able to share my enthusiasm for language-learning with other students, and where I begin my career as a private tutor. After graduating, I achieved a Distinction in my Masters in Advanced Theatre Practice at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Since then I have split my time between tutoring and creating theatrical works.
Inspiring others to enjoy learning (even if the subject is not their favourite) is the most important part of tutoring for me. I will always assess a tutee’s needs and the type of learner they are (for example I am a visual learner) at the beginning of a session, and tailor the sessions according to their interests and level. For French and English GCSE and A level clients I work closely with online material provided by the exam boards (AQA, Edexcel etc), sharing resources such as past papers and mark schemes. I use a variety of both printed and interactive, online resources; many students find this variety supports their learning better than simply going through a workbook, for example.
There is a terrible myth that creative people are scatty and unorganised – this is absolutely not the case! I have excellent time-management skills and design a term’s worth of sessions in advance for each student. I am committed to helping students achieve their goals, no matter how small, and will provide verbal or written feedback and additional support where I can.
I have experience working with SEN children (Key Stages 1 and 2) in a school environment, working as a one-to-one support teacher and small group leader.
