About Sandra

I enjoy working with students. I find it incredibly rewarding to make a positive difference and to see my students succeed. That's why I started tutoring and plan to continue, helping others.

Before I began tutoring, I taught in schools and colleges in London for over 15 years, both in challenging schools and in independent schools with entrance exams. In the schools with entrance tests, marking the entrance examination was part of my work. And in all the schools and colleges where I worked, preparing students for internal and public examinations was part of my day.

Because of my previous experience in teaching, I am very skilled in working out what each student needs and then supporting your or your child to overcome/break through any problems you may be having with specific subject areas or concepts. I am also able to bring a better quality study time, as I go back to basics to share proven tips and techniques, materials and resources which can aid success/overcome the stumbling blocks in your studies.

I am enthusiastic about the subjects that I teach and definitely believe that tutoring can get to the core difficulties more quickly than in a different setting. I believe that any student can do well with a bit of motivation and the right guidance.

My students are unique and special; they like to work with a professional and have goals in their chosen subjects. They find that in return they receive the benefits that come from an expert, quality service - lessons which encourage higher levels of thinking, improves their skills and knowledge of their subject and one which they are happy to recommend to others.

I can provide help and support with all aspects of the core subjects I tutor and can ensure that enough work is covered and revisited to address problem areas.

I understand from experience that if you are worrying or struggling to learn something new, then someone supporting you at the right time can make all the difference and can be positively life-changing.

I totally believe that tutoring is about instilling confidence and hope to provide a relaxed and friendly environment - one where learning is fun - and you can enjoy the freedom to ask questions - big or small - in a safe environment. I have high expectations both of myself and the students I teach because I believe that this brings the best results.

When not tutoring I work part time as a teacher. Because of this, I can offer up to date to knowledge of the new GCSE English and experience of how to teach it.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing and music. I have a passion for words, art, drama and singing. I have proven experience of working in these areas and of running workshops in Drama and in Art.

I have a background of guiding my students towards success and can provide excellent references. One hour a week and some homework may be all you need to get up to standard. Perfect for homeschooling, independent study or those looking to boost their skills within a positive study environment.

Subjects Offered

I offer tutoring for improved performance in selection tests for school, college or employment selection purposes. This includes a wide range of English related subject courses, performance tests, verbal reasoning and integrated reasoning tests, including those featured in assessments such as the 11+.

I also offer tutoring at up to postgraduate level in English Language and Literature/Drama and to graduate level in Performance Art related subjects, including Acting/Singing/Art/Music/Drama Theory Textual Analysis and Critical Thinking. I offer tutoring up to GCSE in History and the Sciences and in most subjects at upper primary / lower secondary level.

I provide tutoring in Creative Writing techniques and skills, ranging from beginner to advanced level. In addition, I can provide courses in TEFL from beginner to advanced level.

I have proven expertise in Vocal skills, including Public Speaking. I offer Acting lessons designed to improve Voice and Vocal technique, Role Play, Improvisation, Movement and skills in Acting/Performing for the stage or the camera. I also offer tutoring for improved performance in solo performance or acting auditions for school, college or employment.

I very much enjoy acting as an education or career mentor and am happy to review educational and employment choices, career goals and progression, etc.

I also offer supported self-study which includes up to 15 minutes of one-to-one support within each hour.

In these sessions, students work independently, with the flexibility to ask for support when and where it will have the greatest impact -- such as when encountering specific problems or questions, or in order to receive timely support and input in the midst of writing up or practicing projects or assignments.

Practice exams and tests can also be administered, with marking and feedback provided at the end.
