About Samina
Personal Profile:
I have significant teaching experience of teaching at all levels and have been involved in tutoring since completing my high school education. Holding PhD in Biological Chemistry from the University of Oxford, I worked as a Researcher and Assistant Professor in different institutions. My academic background, research and teaching experience in an international environment provides me with the skills and expertise to effectively teach at all levels including GCSE, A-level and BTEC.
Teaching Philosophy
By far the most important lesson learnt over the course of these teaching engagements was that a range of methods and resources must be utilized to ensure that the learning styles of all students within a class are attended to. Ultimately each student is a unique individual with his/her own learning style and level of motivation. Therefore, the key to being an effective teacher partly resides in firstly recognizing the learning styles and the level of motivations of a given class, and then iteratively refining one's teaching methods so that the identified styles and levels of motivations can be repeatedly attended to.

Thank you for your recent email and for your request for a reference for Dr. Samina Yasmin, who was an Assistant Professor of Chemistry in the School of Science and Engineering at Habib University in Karachi, Pakistan since July 2014.
Until recently I was the Dean of Research and Continuing Education at Habib University and a Member of the School of Science & Engineering, where I have been since December 2012. Prior to that I was Professor of Electronics in the Department of Engineering at Aberdeen University for 25 years.
Habib University is the first-of-its-kind liberal arts and Sciences University in Pakistan offering holistic, innovative and contextualized education. Habib University’s mission is to provide the highest quality of liberal and professional education, by creating and fostering a stimulating intellectual community built upon interactive dialogue and inquiry among students, faculty and staff. Habib University has formed multifaceted partnerships with leading North American universities – Carnegie Mellon University and Texas A&M University.
Samina has made an outstanding contribution to the teaching of Chemistry during her time at Habib University. She has become a very popular Professor, actively engaging with the students and encouraging them as well as sharing her passion and enthusiasm for her subject. She has become energetically involved in extra-curricular student activities, clubs and societies as well as contributing to the general student well-being, through her role as a student advisor.
Her contributions to the development of the curriculum have been innovative and exciting and she has brought a very dynamic dimension to the teaching of chemistry – both in the classroom and the laboratories.
As a new University, there has inevitably been a significant amount of administrative and organizational work to be undertaken and Samina has demonstrated a real talent for quickly ‘sizing up’ a problem and rapidly ‘getting to grips’ with the situation.
Samina is well liked by her faculty colleagues and works well with them, demonstrating a talent for team working and collaborative cooperation and she has a good sense of humour.
At Habib University, we are actively involved in promoting undergraduate research as a means of supplementing the classroom experience and linking students with faculty research projects. Samina has been an enthusiastic proponent of this approach to learning and has acted as a role model for her colleagues.
She joined Habib University in July 2014 and left at the end of December 2017 for personal family reasons.
Yours sincerely,
Professor C.T.Spracklen, F.Inst.P, C.Phys.Dr. Samina is a very professional and hardworking tutor. She taught my girl GCSE Chemistry and she has scored very high grades. She improved a whole grade with her dedicated and tireless efforts. I am very happy with her and will highly recommend her to others.
