About Sam

Passionate empathetic tutor with school teaching experience

If you are looking for your child to excel in either their music A levels or GCSE’s I am the perfect candidate for this role. I am a young enthusiastic, conscientious and versatile teacher looking to pass on my passion for, and knowledge of, music.

I take a student-centred approach, finding out their goals and motivations. Once I understand what is driving a student it is then easier to guide them through the steps that they need to take to help them to excel.

One of the things that I specialise in is the teaching of composition which I feel is taught badly in most schools all the way up to A level. In order to aid my teaching of this I use the Schillinger method of composition which was taught to me by Dr Jeremy Arden its leading practitioner in the UK.

I strongly believe that it is important to be able to reduce things down to fundamentals. Because these fundamentals are the foundations upon which understanding can be built upon. This allows for a comprehensive understanding of music as a whole greatly enriching their experience as a performer, composer or listener.

I am currently working at WhiteCross High School as a cover supervisor and have designed and lead the year 11 BTEC recording module which has had a 100percent pass rate and a distinction rate of over 70 percent. Because of this I have a keen understanding of what it is that that it takes to succeed in the current GCSE and A level module.

I studied at the University of Hertfordshire on their Modern Composition Pathway, specialising in Music Composition and Production. This course looked at a wide array of techniques and compositional practice from the Baroque era to modern electronic music.
This allows me to take a holistic approach to musical teaching. This I believe it is important as every aspect, genre and role as each branch comes together to enrich the whole.

With over five years recording experience ranging from small single microphone hobby setups to large studio recording I know what it means to be a recording artist, and producer in the modern age. I therefore understand the opportunities and challenges that come with working in music and the skills it takes to succeed. During this time, I have worked on three albums for clients and released two of my own.

Thank you for reading this far and I hope you will get in touch.

Sam Lusted reference

Written by Zoe A
Sam has many great qualities which he has shown since I met him at Whitecross High School. He came to the school through our School Experience Program, on 12th July 2017, that lets people interested in teaching come and view their specialist subject in action on a normal school day. Through this Sam decided to volunteer within the music department and started on 7th September 2017, from then he has been offered a cover supervisor job within the school. He works well with the students, helping to lead lessons, introduce new information to them in interesting ways, he uses his initiative within the department to develop new ideas on how to use equipment in an effective way. He has fitted in well with the students and staff within the school as he has great communication skills, positive attitude, is reliable and has an ambition of what his end goal is. Sam is a calm and friendly person who I am happy to work with.
Sam is still at Whitecross working on his organisational skills within all the different departments he now works in. He works with his line manager at effectively evaluating his lessons and is learni

Sam is an effective communicator, able to explain complex theory, to help learners to access content.
