I have over 10 years research experience as a biochemist at St Georges Hospital Medical School and over 25 years teaching experience in prestigious private collages such as Mander Portman Woodward (MPW) Brampton College, Landsdowne College. I specialize in teaching exam techniques, coursework and revision courses.

Yes

- Where and with whom did you train?

Goldsmiths, University of London

- Tell me about some of your current students.

My students include those who are aiming for a high grade to get into top universities, still at school wanting extra help (an hour a week is the 'norm' although students can have as much or as little tuition as they want), students retaking examinations and students studying A-level independently of any school.
My students have outstanding results. Most students have said I had helped them improve their grades.
Here are some recommendations from my past students:

Dear Salma,
Thank you so much for teaching me this year and last year! I couldn’t have done it without you.
I ended up achieving A*A*A*A*A in biology, chemistry, maths, EPQ and further maths respectively and found that your lessons played a crucial role in my achieving an A* in biology. They helped me so much with exam technique, which I had struggled with previously, and also in terms of knowing which key points to remember. I am also grateful to have been sent your handouts, which were really useful for my revision and also found that the comprehensive packs of exam questions you gave me every week were so helpful when I was further consolidating knowledge from our sessions. I also especially loved your suggestions to get involved in learning the subject beyond the syllabus and this has helped cultivate my passion for biology. As a result, I will go on to study Biological Natural Sciences at Cambridge and will always remember and be very grateful all you have done for me!
Thank you so much once again!
Priya

Salma helped me to pull up my A level Biology grade from a C to an A.
I would definitely recommend her Easter revision course; it is long hours but it is worth it as you cover the whole two year course in one week.
For those who need a little bit more help getting to grips with the content, Salma is the perfect tutor as she provides detailed revision notes and ensures students fully understand concepts so they can apply their knowledge to paper three questions on scenarios outside the textbook.

Salma has honestly been a massive help for my Biology A Level. Every session has been very valuable through the use of her exam board specific handouts and exam questions I have grasped many key concepts in biology and improved my grades as a result of her excellent tutoring. Thank you so much for all the support and improving my confidence in biology through which I will be forever grateful.

I will be forever indebted to Salma. She is a miracle in human form. She took me from an AS grade of a D to a B on the first Year 13 mock exam; after that I was able to continue with constant Bs and was even able to achieve As only months after starting with Salma.
She not only has given me love for a subject that I used to hate, but she has also given me the confidence of knowing that I will finish the year with an A* in Biology. Thank you Salma, even though a thank you is not enough.

I am a second-year A-Level student and having had Salma since September for Biology, I am very pleased with the style of teaching and her in-depth knowledge of the subject. Her notes are excellent which covers aspects beyond the course to ensure the topic is fully understood, the lessons are well prepared and are catered to my needs in the hope of achieving an A grade in Biology. As a tutor, she is approachable, patient and always available for advice.

Being tutored by Miss Siddiqui was the best decision I made to help me improve my A level biology grade. She has a very positive attitude and was always determined to help me understand any topics I was not clear about. The persistent repetition of topics was most important in order to ingrain the knowledge that is sorely required in biology in order to do well. This consisted of: question and answer sessions, going through exam questions, discussing real life scenarios and most importantly going through Miss Siddiqui notes which were an invaluable resource to me.
The lessons were very concise, and Miss Siddiqui ensured that my exam technique was spot on; her years of experience really helped when tackling questions I was not sure how to answer. Her lessons helped me feel more confident about biology and when by the time I sat the last exam I felt fully prepared than years of the past.
I would not hesitate to recommend Miss Siddiqui as she is a great tutor.
Many Thanks
Armin

Dear Salma,
Just wanted to say a huge thank you for helping Feena achieve such a wonderful result in her Biology A Level. We have no doubt that it was down to your teaching that she pulled herself up from a predicted low grade C to a high B.
Take good care and many thanks again,
Aisling.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I am a reserch biochemist by profession and was working in a lab. I was offered a job in the prestigeous Aitchison Collge Lahore as head of science for the school, with amny perks. Aitchison college is Eton equivalent. It was easier to teach with a young family than to work long hours in the lab. I soon realized I loved it. I loved the sparkle in a student's eyes when they get a complex topic.

I began private tutoring because many students who were not in my group at my college heard about me through my students and asked to be moved to my group, which wasn’t always possible. They asked me if I would teach them privately. Also, I have been teaching Easter and December revision courses in the college. Many students who attended these courses asked me to coach them.

Now that my children have flown the nest I am free to travel. It’s easier to be a private tutor than to teach in a school or collage.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I like to discuss with students why they are studying biology and where they think it will lead them. Many students I teach want to study medicine without realising the commitment. I like to point to them the pros and cons of their chosen career. Being a biochemist, I love physiology and genetics. I am not too fond of ecology and since maths is not my strongest subject I am not keen on statistics, I admit this weakness to my students; having said that I tell them if I can do it you most certainly can!
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I had a little crush on my biology teacher, Mr Clark, as did most of the girls in our all girls school. But he was a great teacher and encouraged me to excel.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Listening to students, sussing out their weaknesses and helping them to overcome them. Explaining difficult concepts with everyday examples, encouraging, praising, motivating and getting students to reach their potential and beyond. Making students believe in themselves.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I began teaching in Pakistan in a very prestigious school elite boys' boys' boys'school (Aitchison College in Lahore). In my interview, the principal asked me to pretend to scold a boy. Since I am very loud I told him, Sir the day I scold someone, you won't have to be told about it, you will hear me in your office!

In my interview for the job at Brampton College, I was asked to give a demo lesson. I asked, which topic and gave a lesson on the spot. Needless to say, I was offered the position on the spot.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

I teach whatever topic the student demands. Initially, it was difficult to teach some topics such as inheritance, and statistics on the spot, but over the years I take pride in being able to teach any topic, from any syllabus on demand
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Besides teaching, I love to write. I have four biology books and a novel selling on Amazon. I am a good cook and I love gardening and travelling.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions)?

My students tell me I am a great teacher. My references speak for themselves.
