About Saima
I truly believe, primary education is where an individual changes from an infant into their own person. It is where the future is formed. As a result, the beliefs, characteristics and ideologies an individual embraces are instilled at a young age. I have witnessed this through the development and growth of my nieces and nephews, and essentially, the way in which everyday interactions have carved their identity and the prospective outlook they harness at a young age. Therefore, I am currently studying to become a primary teacher at the University of Greenwich.
I highly value the years I spent at primary and secondary school, in regards to both the teaching and the opportunities I have received. I studied BTEC Business. The detailed nature of tasks reinforces critical reflection and analysis. I feel that with everything that I have been doing in BTEC Business from unit one to the end has guided me towards the right direction into what it is to be a teacher. It has enabled me to gain the key skills a teacher would need, such as being organised, knowing my priorities, having excellent time management skills, the ability to plan for the future and being able to work with others. Therefore, every task I have completed in the subject has allowed me to enhance my knowledge and progress as a person. I also studied Health and Social Care which has allowed me to understand the workings of a health care setting. I studied about health and well-being, child development and the social part of life itself, such as being aware of health issues that students may have. I have learnt the key skills of communication and how positive care can be promoted by getting students into integrated and more cohesive working groups.
Confidence is another key skill used in boosting the ability I possess in empowering the lives of children and families alike. I like to think of myself as a self-motivated and confident individual which is exemplified on my completion of the National Citizen Service. An important part of the service was to meet with different organisations and well-known community leaders on a professional level in order to implement a food bank campaign. I was able to ameliorate confidence within myself by carrying out public speaking tasks such as announcing to the public and large audiences what impact the campaign would have on the local community. I also talked to members of the public for research and raised funds in order to support the campaign.
Additionally, I have completed voluntary work at The Chestnut elderly care home. I took part in different activities with the residents in order to learn about their lifestyles, as well as conversing with care workers about the method in which the organisation functions to meet individual needs. This experience was beneficial as I gained an insight into the healthcare industry. Also, I found that the service users were from all different backgrounds, therefore I had to adapt my communication skills so that they were able to understand and communicate with me effectively. This is similar to how I would adjust the way I speak to children in order for them to comprehend what I am saying and so that I could meet their needs. This has allowed me to improve my communication skills.
Furthermore, I have a keen interest in organising events as I thrive to challenge myself constantly. From this, I assisted in organising charity events such as tea parties and fashion shows, in order to help raise money for less economically developed nations such as Ghana and Palestine. I also dedicated countless hours by going door-to-door to support the cause and help raise money. This allowed me to show my passion for charitable causes in which I hope to carry on in University and continuously raise awareness within the community.
I wish to have the opportunity to help young children develop as it would enable me to develop my understanding of children within the educational system, hoping to one day enter this field myself.
