  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I have always had a passion for teaching and helping students and have been tutoring for many years with over 10,000 hours of teaching experience. I developed a real interest for the study of mathematics and how it is extremely relevant to almost every aspect of life! I have gained a deep sense of appreciation of the genuine rapport a tutor can develop with a student by sharing your knowledge and breaking down complex concepts into easy-to-digest steps.

I believe I am able to use my own experiences and academic success to motivate and inspire my students. I get the best out of students and allow them to embrace the topic areas they are weakest and help them develop their strengths in a way that is enjoyable and focused at the same time. I am currently the highest-rated tutor in East London with over 110+ independent 5-star Google reviews so have plenty of experience dealing with both parents and students.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, and the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I have specifically helped students with the 11 plus as well as Mathematics, Business Studies, Economics and the ACA Accountancy exams from KS1 up to A-Level. Furthermore, I have founded and developed my own website with resources devoted to helping students nationally with their 11+ exam preparation as can be seen on www.rushresources.co.uk.. I have helped hundreds of students to pass the 11 Plus and gain entry to grammar and private schools including KEGS, Henrietta Barnet, QE, KCS Wimbledon, St Paul's, Ilford County, City of London, etc. My past students can be seen at https://www.rushresources.co.uk/hall-of-fame/
  • Did you have any role models; a teachers that inspired you?

I've had many role models growing up but one of my most inspiring would be like Economics teacher at school (Mr Ismail) who showed me how fascinating the subject is and used real-life examples for us to understand advanced theories and economic models. I also found his nature and way of working with students extremely inspiring and he certainly encouraged me to teach and share my knowledge.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I think it is essential for a tutor to have good communication skills, be organised and be willing to take difficult questions.
It is fundamentally a good tutor who remains patient with their students and is willing to remain flexible in order to adapt the lesson to suit each individual student's unique needs.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I personally thrive on challenges. I feel the sense of achievement you get from knowing you have overcome a challenge is priceless. An example of this was during my role as Finance Director of my Young Enterprise team when I had to deliver a final presentation to the judging panel, on my team's business idea. It was a big responsibility with the team counting on my performance.

I ensured I was organized by prioritizing my main points of discussion in the most appropriate structure. I also went that extra mile by creating a flash animated presentation to reinforce the information I was communicating so I could speak with confidence and credibility.

During the presentation, I maintained eye contact with the audience, used hand gestures to support my comments and spoke clearly and coherently to ensure my audience was well-engaged throughout. I also asked questions to increase audience interaction and answered questions to provide clarification on difficult concepts.

In the end, the presentation turned out to be a success as the panel said they were very impressed, citing the presentation was one of the big contributing factors to us winning the Best Young Enterprise Company award in the end. In this situation, I got to take up a big responsibility, exercised my communication skills and learn about how to deliver an effective presentation whilst engaging the audience. This experience certainly made me a more confident speaker and the skills from that time at schools are being used actively when tutoring.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

It can be difficult when a student has chosen a subject that they don't have a genuine passion for and simply do so to please family members. It is often very easy to identify when they feel forced or compelled to complete a degree that their heart does not desire. I always choose to build a rapport with those students and encourage them to take up opportunities which they enjoy and find interesting. I find when that enjoyment is there, the student also scores better in assessments and feels a great sense of achievement.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I have a passion for sharing my knowledge and communicating old textbook concepts in unique and exciting ways. I love to build a relationship with my students and enjoy inspiring them to fulfil their potential.

Outside of the classroom, I have a real interest in keeping up with current affairs, the economy and the property market. I also enjoy watching my favourite football team Manchester United play in the Premier League.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

I am a First Class Actuarial Mathematics Graduate and also an ACA Qualified Chartered Accountant, currently teaching students of all ages. This also demonstrates my strong set of numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills, which are essential as a Tutor. I aspire to make a real difference to students and show them the 'Rush' way. I have been active as a tutor for over 12 years and have over 110+ 5 Star reviews on Google.

I have a 100% 11 plus pass rate given all of my students have passed entrance exams at Westminster, Latymer, Merchant Taylor's, Tiffin, Eton, City of London, KCS Wimbledon, St Paul's, Hampton and many more!

I provide an extremely in-depth level of teaching which allows students to gain an optimal amount from a short space of time. I am an enthusiastic tutor adapting teaching styles towards the personality of my students, this helps students to achieve their potential and reach a higher level of knowledge and success. The approach to teaching I apply involves being friendly, and approachable and providing positive reinforcement. I get the best out of students and allow them to embrace the topic areas they are weakest and help them develop their strengths in a way that is enjoyable and focused at the same time.
