About Rufus
I have a BA (2:1) in English and a PGCE - both completed at Kings College London. Additionally, I have a Cert. Ed. in Training and Education from Greenwich University where my focus was the training and teaching of young adults. I have been teaching English across all the key stages very successfully for many years. I am a good/outstanding teacher; my last official lesson observation received a grade: 1.
I was Head of English Department for a leading South London College for a number of years, responsible for the provision of English at A level and GCSE, significantly improving the College’s results. For the last two years I took the role of Lead Practitioner.
Prior to this, I was KS5 Lead for a large comprehensive school in South East London, in charge of all English Post 16 courses including A level Literature and GCSE. During this time I also I also spent a number of years mentoring and training Student Teachers across all subject/faculties.
I enjoy creating exciting, vibrant lessons and help my students to take ownership of their learning development with a step-by-step approach. I am personable and approachable with a relaxed but purposeful approach. I have a good sense of humour and maintain strong relationships with all my students, who enjoy my lessons. I am committed to my students’ achievement and attainment and work hard for their success, encouraging every young person to push themselves towards their goal.

Perfect! Great
Rufus has only tutored my sons for a short period of time but he has definitely brought out the best in both my sons. Where they once lacked confidence he has recognised their needs and encouraged their abilities ready for their English Literature exam.
He is friendly, reliable and punctual.

He has a laconic style but this masks a highly organised and dedicated practitioner who engages well with all learners and collaborates effectively with peers.
