About Ruby
I have always been motivated to have wider interests beyond academia. I am a Full Cambridge and Oxford Blue, representing my university in athletics and cross country running. I still run at National level on the weekends and won a national English medal in 2022 for road running. Being so enthusiastic about sport, I would relish the opportunity of helping oversee the school teams and training sessions and would be able and willing to assist with the provision of any sport with dedication and enthusiasm.
I enjoy writing and contribute regular opinion and lifestyle features for the Guardian, Independent, TCS and Cherwell. I would enjoy managing the production of a student magazine or school newspaper. I attend the theatre regularly (National, Orange Tree, Old Vic, Young Vic, Almedia, Lyric, Southwark) and regularly organised and attended theatre visits for set texts at my school. I also organised an ‘actor insight’ talk for students, recently coordinating a visit by Michael Akinsulire to speak to my current sixth formers at my placement PGCE school, on his preparation for his role of Othello in 2023 at the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith.
I am deeply interested in current affairs and politics and enjoy hearing both fiction and non-fiction authors speak and debate. I would love the opportunity to run a whole-school mock mayoral election in parallel with either the American UK National election, to develop student interest in politics as well as organisation / confidence and leadership skills.
I have a rich interest in ancient history, attending exhibitions at the British Library and have also attended seminars both at the British School at Athens and Rome in my summer teaching holiday.

I have been a professional tutor for the past six years, having been consistently tutoring whilst completing my BA and MA in Classics at Cambridge, and after completing my PGCE from the university of Oxford in English literature. I am keen to work with an organisation that values my academic pedigree, and provides clients that I can help with rigorous academic subjects.
I also value the flexibility of one to one tutoring. I enjoy forming lasting professional bonds with clients over many years and relish teaching one to one beside a larger classroom dynamic.
With both an undergraduate degree and masters from Cambridge, I have a great depth in subject knowledge, as well as practical training (studying at Oxford) in how to scaffold learning and engage children in subjects. I am aware of how to form positive relationships with learners, and how to approach subjects in a sensitive manner (the inevitable reason why they might be seeking my support is a lack of confidence with the subject. I am still teaching full time, and believe my experience in both the state and independent sector has provided me with in depth experience in how best to support learners with a variety of needs. Over the last 6 years I have offered tuition in the following areas.
