About Ross
Hi!
I'm Ross. I'm 25, and I recently graduated from Oxford where I read Arabic & Islamic Studies.
I'm currently studying for my master's degree at Edinburgh University.
So far I've helped my students with a variety of projects: their personal statements, UCAS applications, EPQs, coursework, French exams (written/oral) and Spanish A-Level. I have also tutored in English for professional and personal use, both online and in-person.
More recently I have assisted a person
On top of teaching, I'm always recommending readings and films, so that they're able to grow as people too, as that's the only way to truly develop.
My education: at school I earned A*A*AA in French, English, Politics and Spanish, and have a literary focus.
At Oxford my degree spanned a range of topics including Theology, Philosophy, Literature, Social Anthropology and History.
At the point of writing, I'm very proud to say that all of my students applying to Oxford have been accepted, and that all of my students have made significant progress across the board, jumping from Bs to As and A*s wherever they have asked me to help.
I look forward to helping you too!

Ross helped me in improving my English writing and I enjoyed working with him. He won't just simply correct the writing, but also point out the logic behind it and give examples to make sure you understand why he made those changes. Highly recommend.
Ross advised on a recent application for Islamic studies that includes a strong Arabic component.
I was highly impressed by Ross' attention to detail and the time he took to really understand my aims in applying. As such, he always asked insightful questions and offere practical insights and tips to really strengthen my applications.
Moreover, Ross' passion for his field and pleasant demeanour meant chatting about my application was always a pleasure and very helpful for me.
Also, Ross went the extra mile to provide detailed review comments that helped me to substantially improve my application.
I would 100% recommend Ross to anyone - his knowledge, commitment to excellence, and practical tips really make all the difference between a good and a great app!
Thanks Ross!I found Ross through Oxbridge Applications and booked 4 x 1hr mock interview/tutoring sessions over Skype in the lead up to my interviews to study French and Arabic at Pembroke college Oxford (2018 entry).
Within the first session, Ross was clinical in locating gaps in my knowledge and systematic in his explanation of how he would help me to patch these holes in my understanding. Crucially, he struck that key balance between asking pointed and prising questions and yet never overstepping the mark and leaving me feeling disheartened about my ability. Oxbridge interviewers inevitably push you beyond your comfort zone and Ross did an excellent job of replicating this sensation authentically. As a result, he did wonders to my confidence on the day and enthused me with the academic passion he evidently possesses.
Ross displayed remarkable flexibility during the relatively short time I was his tutee. His communication was always prompt in arranging sessions and he was quick to adapt if something came up in my schedule. This high level of flexibility continued into the sessions themselves as he enabled me to tailor the lesson to whatever areas I felt the need to improve, never faltering in the wide-ranging questions I posed him.
Finally, and arguably most importantly, Ross demonstrated unparalleled commitment to me as his tutee. In particular, I remember that even when the hour had elapsed, Ross was dedicated to ensuring that we complete the topic in hand at a natural juncture and that any of my queries are soundly put to bed, even if it meant running on by a few minutes. When it came to the four day interview process, Ross became more than a tutor; rather, he was a friend with whom I always felt I could freely express my qualms, and it is a testament to his good nature that we are still in contact.Ross helped me for my Oxford admissions test, which evaluates grammar and translation skills. Ross, being fluent in French, enabled me to perfect my translation skills and taught me more complex French grammar. In addition, Ross introduced me to a wide range of French literature and taught me how to analyse these works, which was extremely helpful for the interview. I would highly recommend Ross as he went above and beyond my expectations and gave me the confidence and skills that I needed.
Ross prepared me for the Oxford Arabic admissions test which involves understanding linguistics and complex grammatical structures. Ross also covered a variety of Arabic literature and articles in translation and gave me the confidence to talk about different topics that could come up at interview. Ross was very patient and made every lesson engaging and enjoyable. I would highly recommend Ross!
My lessons with Ross have improved my french grammar and speaking skills drastically which has in turn allowed me to get the top grades that I want. Speaking both french and English fluently, he is the best person to explain the grammatical rules and it really sticks! Not only did Ross help me with french but also philosophy, English, EPQ as well as my personal statement. His advice on essay technique and structure has been invaluable. Overall great tutor I definitely recommend.
