Art from the right side of the brain

I have a long history as a working professional artist and designer with experience teaching in art schools across the UK as well as a private art tutor teaching everyone from beginners to advanced art students.

I have exhibited my work in London and in UK galleries during my many years in practice. I am able to take on new students as I have extra time to spare.

I teach most levels of art, particularly drawing and painting, but am very versatile.

My focus in teaching is based on learning to see.
I teach from a basis of developing observation skills and build on use of different materials and mediums.

I myself paint mostly landscape and figure work. I tell a story in geometrically based compositions whilst emphasising light and colour.

I am influenced by Van Gogh, Monet, Hockney and Picasso. I work towards a post-impressionistic rendering, though sometimes return to 'academic' drawing and painting.
I studied at Croydon College of Art and attended classes at Central School of Art and the London School of Printing. I worked as a graphic designer until 2007, both employed and into private practice, giving time to teaching in Colleges of Art including Hull, Norwich, Epsom, Croydon and Reigate. I taught drawing and Painting at Ruxley Lane, Epsom and privately in Dorking.
I exhibit at the Painters Fine Art Society, the Dorking Group of Artists, and at Saatchi Gallery.

Richard Waldron

Written by Anne O
I am writing as the Secretary of the All Day Art Club in support of Richard's application to become a tutor for Tutorfair. Richard has been our tutor from half-way through the Christmas term in 2015 and everyone is more than happy with his tutorship. The club really does revolve around him and his basic approach is to circulate the group helping individuals in a friendly and informative manner. However, if he sees something which he thinks needs general learning he will invite those who wish to attend to a short demonstration on that point or technique. He also gently challenges people to move beyond their normal practices and to try something different, which has elicited comments about how our work is becoming more adventurous and of a higher standard. With this in mind Richard sets us a challenge every term and he reviews the results on the last day making helpful and constructive comments. This is not a competition in any way and is well supported by club members. I wish him well with his application.
I hope that Richard will be successful with his application.

Richard Waldron's application to become a tutor for Tutorfair.

I write as the secretary of the All Day Art Club, of which Richard has been the tutor since November 2015. During his time with us he has become the king-pin around which the club revolves. During any one session he circulates the group making helpful comments to individuals, which works well with all the members. We also appreciate the fact that if Richard sees something as he goes round that he feels would benefit from a short demo on that point or technique then those members who are interested can gather round and listen to what he has to say. He is particularly good at inspiring us with new ideas and every term he sets us a challenge culminating in a little exhibition of our pictures on which he makes helpful comments. To his credit non-members have also been making comments to the effect that our work has become more imaginative since he has been our tutor.

I have no hesitation in recommending him for the post of tutor with your organisation.
I feel that Richard would make an excellent tutor and I wish him well with this application.
