Hi, I’m Rich. Geography, particularly environment and ecology, physics, mathematics and data analysis are my specialist subjects.
I have a genuine passion and enthusiasm for passing on knowledge with experience of explaining scientific concepts to a wide range of audiences, from publishing in scientific journals to writing blogs for the general public. Throughout my academic studies, I have consistently achieved distinctions and was awarded the prize for the Best Masters Dissertation in Physical Geography.

Review
All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by the students of Richard.
Perfect! Richard prepared our son for maths and non-verbal reasoning entry tests at two independent secondary schools in Scotland (S1). As a result our son has been offered a place at both schools and one of them commented that he did "very, very well" at both maths and non-verbal!
That's probably the best recommendation that I can leave but I will also add that Richard's passion for maths is contagious. Our son was always happy before his lessons and came with a feeling of achievement afterwards.
Richard is also a very thorough and dedicated tutor. He never finished a lesson without making sure that the subject was understood. After his tests our son said that there was not a single type of question that he wouldn't have tried with Richard.
We highly recommend Richard's tuition.Perfect! A very knowledgeable, experienced and patient tutor
Richard was brilliant. In a short period of time he helped my son prepare for a 13+ assessment at an independent school, which he successfully passed. As we didn't know what the test would be like, Richard was able to provide general guidance and found a sample exam paper for that particular school and a practice book that helped my son a lot with his preparation. Despite being very busy, Richard didn't finish a lesson without making sure that my son had understood the topic, allowing him to progress at his own pace. Richard supported our son's learning greatly and improved his confidence. I can definitely recommend him.
Subject : Maths
Outcome : My son successfully passed the 13+ assessmentPerfect! Richard is a great tutor who not only knows his subject well but is passionate about it too. He ensures that my son understands each topic encountered before moving on. He is observant on how the student learns best and then he adapts to use that specific approach. His goal is to ensure that my son gets the most out of each lesson and he is happy to answer any questions that my don has out of tuition hours. I would 100% recommended Richard
Subject : PhysicsPerfect! Brilliant tutor
Richard is a brilliant tutor in Excel. He was able to explain to me a method to efficiently insert data for my MSc Dissertation, which has helped me greatly. Richard explained things thoroughly and clearly, allowing me to understand the process step by step and what different parts of Excel formulas mean. I would definitely recommend Richard as a tutor, and will be using his services again.
Subject : Microsoft Excel
Outcome : I am able to proceed with my dissertation in a more efficient manner using Excel.Perfect! Excellent
Clear , helpful , understandable , useful advice every minute of the hour that simply flew past.
to quote Mary Poppins ," practically perfect in everyway"
Subject : Microsoft Excel
Outcome : I can now use Excel , see quotePerfect! An excellent tutor in the R programming
I'm a PhD student who's about to do my data analysis using the R programming which I'm mostly unfamiliar with. I've already taken the basic and advanced R programming courses at the university but my knowledge and skills in the R remains limited.
I'm pretty much worried about how I'm going to be able to do my data analysis. When I firstly decided to take a lesson with Richard, I didn't have high expectation.
Subject : Computer Skills
Outcome : Unbelievably, I've so far taken only 2 lessons with Richard, I must say I've gained enough confidence to do my data analysis using the R programming. He's not only a kind and helpful tPerfect! A Great Start!
Richard has been tutoring my two children for about a month now. They are very different children who learn at a different pace. Both had said that they really enjoy Richards's teaching style, in particular, being able to break things down so that they are able to understand and his patience if they do not immediately get it.
Subject : Maths
Outcome : Not ApplicablePerfect! Excellent Tutor
Richard has been tutoring my son in physics and I have to say that he seems very passionate and dedicated to helping his pupils understand the topic. He is patient, encouraging and offers comprehensive feedback following each session to offer me an understanding of my son’s capabilities - both strengths and areas he need to focus on.
Subject : Physics
Outcome : Son enjoys his lessons with Richard and is continuously improving.Perfect! tailored learning with Richard
Richard is tutoring our son and we find him extremely patient and thorough. It's no easy task because our son is very young and lack in common knowledge but advanced in other areas. Richard connects real world applications of different elements with their atomic structures that helped my son to understand the basic building blocks of our world. He has a broad understanding of different sciences and can tailor his lessons to the needs of this students. We are very lucky to have found someone who, not only can teach scientific facts, but also can nurture our son's passion for learning.
Subject : School science
Outcome : Our son is excited to learn more about atoms, elements and so much more. We are looking forward to our future lessons with Richard.View more reviews

I have supervised Richard's PhD studies at Royal Holloway University of London. His thesis included a lot of statistical analyses of acoustic data. Richard is very thorough in his approach, very reliable and hard-working. I have also seen many presentations that he gave at various scientific meetings. He is very good at explaining things to various audiences.
I observed Richard teaching a class of second-year undergraduate biology students as part of a degree-level course on field ecology (I'm a Professor of Ecology and Evolution). Richard was outstanding as a tutor, giving interesting examples that engaged the students, and going through more challenging topics with exceptional clarity. I later taught classes that included slides that he had provided, for a different undergraduate course. He is a very proficient ecologist, with excellent natural history knowledge, but is also approachable, kind and very helpful. I have known him professionally throughout his PhD, and would not hesitate to employ him as a tutor for my own children.
Rich Beason was employed by Greenpeace UK a few years ago, in the IT Team. Part of his role was to deliver IT training to end-users. He is an extremely effective IT trainer, able to explain complex subjects in an engaging manner to his students, no matter their ability. He is enthusiastic and personable. The kind of courses he delivered covered a wide range of different platforms and technologies, from Google Apps, Box to Microsoft Office. He also understands programming languages.
