About Rhiannon-Elíse

After sitting my English Literature (A) and English Language (A*) GCSE a year early, I went on to complete my English Literature (A) Philosophy (A) and Drama (B) A-Level(s) shortly after at Harlington Upper School. I am currently studying for my degree in Philosophy (2:1), at the University of Hertfordshire. I am an undergraduate, in my final year of study. I also have a certificate in Law and Astrophysics. This is something I have done in my spare time, through the Open University.
Through the University of Hertfordshire, I have been given ample training in tutoring/mentoring. I will continue this training during my final year, so I am constantly reviewing and improving my skill as a tutor.

As a tutor, I want you to find the subject(s) both engaging and exciting - just as they were for me. I am patient and positive – we will set a goal for you to work toward. I hope that you enjoy the subject, just as much as I hope you achieve in the subject. Often, the biggest challenge is to enjoy what you are studying. Once you enjoy what you are studying, the rest will come naturally. My approach is simple; passion is progress, and progress is result.

I will plan each tutoring session carefully, and I will set extra 'homework' to help keep your progress on track. Whether it is reading a chapter, writing a paragraph or researching – I want you to prepare each week for our session, so you can benefit from our work. This is also so I can evaluate your progress – it is a useful tool for both of us!
Every so often, we will also review your progress – here, we will make any change that may be necessary for moving forward.

English Literature –
This was my favourite subject at school. I love reading. It can open a new world – while making you think and feel. I have vast experience in literature, particularly William Shakespeare. During my academic career, I have read Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummers Night Dream, The Tempest, Macbeth and Hamlet. I also have vast experience in classic literature, such as To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, An Inspector Calls, Wuthering Heights and Of Mice and Men – where many of these appear at GCSE, and A-Level.

English –
While being confident in English Literature, I am also confident at English Language. I can help to improve your reading, writing and exam performance. We will look at the exam criteria, so you are comfortable and confident with your reading and writing during the exam. I can help you prep for an exam; whether that is helping with revision, focus or a coping technique.

I believe in communication and ongoing support – so I am available for you to discuss any concern, or any issue you are having; whether that is through e-mail, or through Skype. It will be a safe, learning environment.
I will tutor via e-mail and Skype. This is so we do not have to worry about busy and conflicting schedules, or travel.
We will arrange each tutoring session in advance. I am available during the afternoon, from 12-3pm and the evening, from 7-9pm.
The first session will involve getting to know one another – we will discuss where you are looking to improve, what issue you are having and set a goal to work toward. We will also arrange a tutoring schedule, to best fit in with both of our daily lives.
Each week, we will follow a slideshow presentation or a handout – there will be a question, to which we will discuss and work through. For example, if we are reading studying English Literature, I will prepare a slideshow presentation or handout, and ask a specific question relating to the literature (about a theme, or a character, or a context) that will we discuss in detail. At the end of the session, I will give you some extra ‘homework’ – whether that is to think about something we have discussed, or to do some further reading or research.
If you have a specific issue (such as spelling) we will incorporate this into each session.
The purpose of each session, is to focus on what you are struggling with in a positive and enjoyable environment – outside of the typical classroom. I believe we learn best when we are not under pressure. The benefit of a private tutor, is that you have my full attention! We will work on what you need to work on. I am a genuine and caring person, so your success is of paramount importance to me.

Please message me if you wish to discuss anything further.
