I have been tutoring for more than three years; consequently I have developed a portfolio of lesson plans and refined my communication skills. My main aim is to ensure that the students are engaging well with the text and the work that I set. I teach them how to approach texts and exam questions so they can use these key skills and techniques to ensure they receive maximum marks. I regular practice exam papers with my students as well as covering the subject content, such as poetry, core books and creative writing, but more than that I give tailored and specific advice that enable students to think analytically which makes revision easier. My focus lies in ensuring the students understand the text and helping them develop a coherent structure and argument in their writing. With a subject like English where there is no right answer it is crucial that students think critically so they can expand on their answers, so I make my lessons interesting, challenging and relevant to the students experiences by using examples and planning work that suits the students’ needs as well as adhering to the curriculum. I maintain a positive attitude so I can motivate my students, and I have patience with them as I understand the subject is broad and thinking can take time depending on the student's ability.
