About Raphaelle
I am currently a first year undergraduate student at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences. Before moving to London for university, I lived in Manchester and attended Withington Girls' School; the best independent school in the North West. I have always been a highly driven student which reflected in my GCSE grades of 10A*(inc Further Mathematics), 8 (English Language), 9 (English Literature) and my A level grades of 3A's. I discovered my love for teaching nearly 2 years ago when I started tutoring in Manchester. In that time I helped a student pass all her 5 entrance examinations for the top independent schools, another achieved a 9 in GCSE Mathematics and an 8 in Biology and another student struggling with low confidence go from bottom set in Mathematics to second set, who will now be taking Further Mathematics alongside her GCSE Mathematics. I am currently teaching the 11+ entrance examinations for a student as well as supporting other students through their GCSE's. The two main reasons I believe have helped me become a good teacher is being bilingual and having to manage the difficulty of dyslexia. My brain has developed to think about concepts different to others. This has given me the ability to teach students in different ways when they don’t grasp ideas immediately. One thing I have learnt through teaching is that a student's biggest problem is not their ability but their confidence. As a tutor, my job is to help them build this confidence.
Every student I teach is different and requires different needs. Therefore, I do not like to have one structure set for each student and each lesson. I am a highly adaptable person who prefers to cater each lesson for the particular need of that student at that given time. My main focus for every student I teach is to build a relationship with them and their parents to ensure good communication is kept throughout. Building a relationship with that student is essential to build their confidence.
My strategy is to firstly highlight what the student struggles with the most by talking to them, their parents and looking at past school material in that subject. From there, I will prepare each lesson focusing on one topic at a time. I will explain the subject again and explain it as many times as required until the student is happy (if I do have to explain concepts again, I am aware the student cannot grasp it in the way I am teaching so I will explain It in a different method and style than previously used). Then, we will work on questions I make and past exam questions to consolidate this work. To further consolidate, I do give homework to practice questions by themselves to see if they have understood these concepts. In the next lesson, I mark this work and assess whether more time is needed or not (generally no more time is needed and homework does not need to be given instructed differently). After going over the topics that are first highlighted to me, I will introduce questions to different topics into our lesson which I think the student might also not be confident. In this way I can see what else needs tackling and prepare for them. I also like to give little mini tests after covering around 5 topics to see whether they have fully grasps all concepts and if they have stuck in their heads. This is my way of measuring their progress and how to structure further lessons. I believe that a student's love for a subject heavily relies on the teachers which is why I am passionate in teaching and believe building a relationship with the student Is important. I make sure lessons are fun so that the student is happy and I heavily encourage questions to constantly be asked as this is the best way for a student to learn. In this way, goals can be met as the student starts to build confidence in themselves as well as loving the subject itself.

Raphaelle has taught both my daughters at age 11 and 10. Both of my girls loved Raphaelle's lessons. They told me she was very good at explaining maths in a child friendly manner and got the mathematical concepts across well and effectively. I would highly recommend Raphaelle as she is very creative in the way she teaches and makes her lessons fun.
