About Rania

I have been playing the saxophone since the age of 7 in a music school in Paris. Throughout my time there, I was supported and taught by experienced and professional saxophonists. In addition to one-to-one lessons, emphasis was put on music theory, playing in music ensembles as well as performing in public. Accordingly, I participated in a wind orchestra, a big band, a saxophone quartet, as well as a piano-saxophone duo. In addition to that, I have also participated in numerous concerts given in local French churches to raise funds for the restauration of the town’s heritage, in the Wolverhampton Grammar School in order to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, and in a couple of museums, libraries, and old people’s homes in Paris. This experience has made me feel more at ease whilst playing in front of a public and these concerts also served as a motivation, as I was working towards a project.
I have been turoring 3 students in saxophone for more than a year.

Hi, I’m Rania. I play and teach the saxophone to students of all levels. I have been taught by many different teachers in England and in France and it has been very beneficial in constructing my own teaching methodology. Playing an instrument is not an easy task. It takes time and hard work but my role as a teacher is to make this enjoyable and rewarding. It is not because you have been playing the saxophone for just a month that you cannot make something beautiful and creative. Even with simple tunes there is a lot you can do with it to make it more interesting to the ear.
However, there is nothing more frustrating when it is the basic techniques of the instrument that stop you from progressing and achieving what you have in mind. The most delicate part of the saxophone is breath control. Blowing in a saxophone is similar in many ways to singing, especially in the use of the abdominals. Once you understand how breathing works, you will progress enormously. I have many exercises that you can practice at home that will help you work on these particular issues of breathing and blowing.
I love playing classical music and I have always loved discovering and rediscovering pieces from the classical repertoire. Although classical music has the reputation to be very serious and not a lot of fun, I have always taken a lot of pleasure in finding ways to interpret the piece and give it my own touch. I believe it is a musical genre in which you can fully express yourself as an individual. If classical music isn’t really your thing, I have also followed a jazz course so I can also give you improvisation techniques. Saxophone is a hugely versatile instrument with which you can play pretty much anything from classical to funk, to pop, to jazz, to film music. I will help you find the sound you want for different genres of music.
I find it essential to play music with other people even if you are a begginer. During the lessons we will be playing saxophone duets. If you have friends you would like to play music pieces with, then bring them to the lessons and I will guide you in band practice.
