About Ramsey
I'm a graduate of the University of Edinburgh, where I earned a Master of Informatics, First Class. For my dissertation, I adapted a neural model of the insect brain to build a dung beetle biorobot -- yes, you read that right! I even received a grant to pit my creation against real dung beetles in South Africa. The robot rolled away victorious, but rest assured, no beetles were harmed in the making of this story.
My teaching skills were first sharpened in the battle trenches of the university classroom, where I was trained and employed to tutor 1st- and 2nd-year informatics courses: in total, 11 groups of up to 20, plus ~50 hours for those who needed more 1-on-1. My teaching achievements were rewarded with 3 nominations for the university's Best Student Who Tutors Award, plus a shiny Associate Fellow badge from the UK's Higher Education Academy.
Since 2019, I've been spreading the joy of programming online like a digital Santa Claus. To date, I've helped 30+ GCSE and 30+ A-Level students ace their courseworks and final exams with AQA, OCR, Cambridge, Edexcel and SQA. I've also helped 40+ university students with general programming, OOP, web development, databases, data science, functional programming, assembly programming, and certain topics in algorithms and data structures, theoretical computer science, artificial intelligence and machine learning. My languages of choice are Python, Java, C#, SQL, PHP, HTML/CSS/JavaScript, MATLAB, Haskell, and C/MIPS.

My methodology is simple: practise what you'll be tested on. Whether it's wrangling through exam questions or throwing down with a programming project, I'll be by your side, nudging you forward with hints, examples, explanations, and encouragement. Plus, I've got a treasure chest brimming with study skills, revision techniques, and time management secrets just waiting to be found. But don't worry, our sessions are 100% pressure-free. If you find yourself stuck in a coding conundrum, I'll always throw you a lifeline. Gradually, you'll find yourself relying on me less and less until -- bam! -- you're doing it all by yourself.
Overall, I have a track record of improving student's confidence and grade outcomes, and you can usually expect to gain around 1 grade per 3-4 months of weekly tuition (so long as you do your homework!). Still, at heart I'm just a fellow traveller on this grand learning journey, so you can bet I'll arrive to every lesson prepared and ready to tailor the session just for you. Whether you're a beginner who still thinks Python is a snake, or already a code conjurer in the making, I'm here to help. I firmly believe that every skill in computer science can be learned by anyone, even you! It's my mission to show you that however big the problem, you can always break it down into "byte"-sized chunks, and yes, even have fun while you're at it!

Ramsey is a great tutor who was able to explain various programming concepts that I had previously been struggling with. He definitely has a lot of patience, I never felt afraid to ask him questions and he was always able to answer them, making sure that I understood fully. This is exactly what I needed! Definitely recommend.

Ramsey has been helping me prepare for an exam on some theoretical concepts of Computer Science. His teaching style is fantastic, well structured and explanations are clear. I will definitely be using him again in the future, highly recommend!
Subject : Computer Science
Outcome : Achieved a first-class grade in my exam.Perfect! Great Tutor
Ramsey has been helping me with projects in Artificial Intelligence for a graduate level course. He is an enthusiastic and encouraging tutor and always comes well prepared to our lessons. His clear explanations and structured approach have helped me understand the basic principles I didn't realise I was missing and have made a large impact in a short amount of time - it's been a lot of work, but I've achieved an A in all of the projects I've completed so far, and I think this would have been much more of a struggle without Ramsey's support. Overall I highly recommend Ramsey as a computer science tutor - thanks Ramsey!

Ramsey is an exceptional tutor with his solid understanding of topics allowing him clearly explain the concepts needed to tackle a broad range of problems. I continue to improve my coding skills under his guidance even after graduation as he helps me prepare for the coding tests in the job market. He is always well prepared for every lesson and is willing to go the extra mile to learn new material. Ramsey's dedication and commitment make him a top choice as Superprof.
Ramsey has been a very good teacher, who has helped me progressive vastly in my coding. He is very attentive to your needs and constantly strives to assist you. He's lessons are very well planned out and tailored to your needs. Prior to Ramsey tutoring, I did not really understand computer science theoretical or practically (coding) and now I am able to code in multiple coding languages, both front-end and back-end. He has also helped me to understand the data science aspect of coding. This has been done in a short-period of time. Aside from tutoring aspect, Ramsey is warm and thoughtful individual. So if you want to gain a deeper understanding of computer science in a pleasant environment. I would highly recommend you with work with Ramsey.
I believe that Ramsey is an excellent tutor. He was very helpful and productive in the lessons that we had, and explained things concisely in a way that was easy to understand. He provided a great deal of assistance in working with Python, Matlab and SQL. He was able to help me in these areas by using various online resources, exercises and exam-style questions. I would thoroughly recommend him as a tutor.
I am writing to support Ramsey El-Naggar’s application to enrol in the IntroAP course. I have known Ramsey in his role of co-Senior Leader, together with myself and another colleague, of the Edinburgh University School of Informatics InfPALS (Informatics Peer Assisted Learning Scheme) in 2016-2017. Ramsey has also attended numerous of my training sessions for tutors and demonstrators in our school.
It was evident through my interactions that Ramsey was passionate about supporting students. Before working with me, he had been a volunteer InfPALS leader since the commencement of InfPALS in 2014. In this position, he was fully planning weekly sessions, including making decisions as to the topics to discuss and designing activities in response to student needs, but also facilitating the sessions, collecting feedback from students and preparing weekly reports self-assessing his teaching in class. Ramsey’s involvement as a volunteer InfPALS leader for years clearly demonstrates his commitment to the aims of InfPALS, those of providing student support in an informal, friendly, environment through a combination of facilitation, leading to the development of study skills and learner communities, and advice on matters ranging from how to find information to managing life in university. His very positive results in the first year Computation and Logic and Functional Programming courses also commended Ramsey as a very good facilitator on such topics in sessions. For his involvement, he also gained an Edinburgh Award. Even before meeting Ramsey, my precursor recommended him to me as being a natural facilitator and gifted at listening and making PALS a safe and comfortable environment where students are encouraged to ask questions and seek help. It was thus only natural to propose him as one of my colleagues in the position of Senior Leader for this academic year. In this position, Ramsey helped recruit new leaders, promoted InfPALS to attract both students and new leaders, helped with training new leaders in the spirit of PALS, and performed some administrative duties. In what concerned training, he was always enthusiastic to share his own experience on issues such as organising or re-organising the class in order to give equal opportunities to students with different levels of knowledge and different backgrounds to contribute, or giving feedback which encourages further study rather than a complete explanation. However, he was always also curious to learn about the new leaders’ experience as former InfPALS attendees and in their own sessions. Ramsey was always very friendly, while also confident, during training, and he also always welcomed other opinions and points of view, all of which instilled an informal atmosphere encouraging interaction. He also always explained his arguments clearly, with examples.
Ramsey showed the same enthusiasm when attending my training sessions for tutors and demonstrators. He has attended the great majority of my programme of sessions, which demonstrates his commitment to his teaching development also through participation to training, and the sharing of experience with other tutors and demonstrators. He was also one of the attendees who voluntarily decided to conduct a peer observation together with a colleague, to further improve his teaching.
Ever since the decision in the Edinburgh University School of Informatics to hire undergraduate students as tutors and demonstrators, Ramsey has also taken up such roles in the topics of Cognitive Science, Computation and Logic, and Data and Analysis.
Given his years of experience, dedication, and natural talent in teaching, but also his enthusiasm and ambition to take his teaching to new dimensions, I would like to recommend Ramsey highly.
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Cristina Adriana AlexandruRamsey is an excellent teacher. He raised my score 30-some points. Without him I would have never gotten the credits I needed. He was always prompt and polite, and always ensured I understood a topic fully before moving on. He never made me feel silly, even if I had a silly question to ask. He is in general a very kind, patient, and intelligent person. If you are in need of an excellent tutor, look no further - you've found him.

Prices quoted are for 55-minutes not a full hour (the 5-minute break is supposed to help me manage multiple lessons per day, but see my flexible timing policy below!)
The 30-minute free "first class" that I offer is mainly for us to discuss the details of your tutoring needs, share resources together quickly, and see if we would be a good match for an initial paid tutoring session.
My flexible timing policy: If you're ever late for a lesson or need to leave a lesson early for whatever reason, that's totally fine. Often, it's me who is late or needs to leave early! When we actually start the lesson, I always note the time and I'll make sure to eventually give you at least the full 55-minutes per lesson that you're paying for, even if this means adding time onto a future lesson or arranging a free catch-up session.
My rescheduling and refund policy: If you're not happy with a lesson for whatever reason, I will offer a full refund, no questions asked. If you ever need to cancel or reschedule a lesson, even at short notice or after the scheduled lesson time, that's also totally fine. I'll never try to charge you for a lesson that doesn't go ahead or that does not meet your expectations.
