About Rachel

Maths/Physics tutor up to A-Level, based in Clapton.

Hi I'm Rachel, I hold a masters in physics and maths from the University of Manchester, where I got a high 2:1.

I can tutor children needing help with maths or physics up to A-Level, and have experience privately tutoring both of these subjects and also working onsite at the Lilian Baylis Technology school for several months.

I'm a friendly person and am good at motivating teenagers to join in with lessons and engage with the subject. I work well with shy teenagers who need a confidence boost in their work.

My lessons start with trying to find key problem areas, so we work through worksheets with a wide range of topics together. When I've found areas which cause problems, be it fractions, algebra or shapes, I make worksheets that target these problems. I also focus on establishing good habits for setting work out properly.

Since I also studied english literature for A-Level I can work with younger students doing school entrance exams with a written and numerical component.

At the minute I am studying for a masters in data journalism and writing freelance for various newspapers so my schedule is flexible.
Hourly rate: £50.00

Great Maths Tutor

Written by Gary P
Rachel was an excellent tutor for our Y11-13 students who were off target. She worked hard to create stimulating and personalised lessons for each student to ensure s/he made progress and built up confidence. She has very good maths knowledge and is able to teach students of all ability. She ensures that she starts from each students individual misconceptions and slowly works to address these
I can recommend her fully and without reservation.

Rachel Connolly

I employed Rachel as a home tutor for my son from Feb 2016-June2016. She was recommended by my son's maths teacher.
My son was struggling with GCSE maths and combined science that he was to sit at the end of that school year.
He had lost confidence in his abilities as a result of bad results and was difficult to motivate.
Rachel was intuitive to his cautiousness without undermining him and helped him regain his confidence. they worked together to find hid areas of weakness and focussed on these.
She was thorough, punctual, kind and professional.
they developed a good working relationship and she was conscientious to keep me aware of his progress.
Subject:
Maths and Science
Outcome:
My son achieved A grades in his mathematics and combined science subjects at GCSE level and this gave him a better choice for options at lower sixth level. he has maintained contact with Rachel and sh
