************Over 15 years of experience as an educational consultant and tutor, as well as a strong academic background consisting of degree in Biomedical Sciences from the prestigious King’s College London************
************Experience working as an education advisor for companies such as UNICEF***********
Introduction
I have been an Education Consultant and a Tutor for over 15 years, working privately with families as well as with schools and agencies. I specialise in English (literacy, reading and comprehension) and preparing students for entry examinations (ISEB pre-tests, 7+, 11+, 13+) into highly ranked schools. I also have an excellent track record for helping students achieve top grades in GCSE's and A levels (Maths, Biology, Chemistry and English) and securing their place at a top university. I have an organised and a structured approach and work hard on creating a strong literacy and mathematical foundation. This is essential, not just for students taking their entry examinations, but also for students who have gaps in their knowledge which have been overlooked in mainstream education. I am currently an advisor for a prestigious London agency. I have also worked with UNICEF on a project to assess the level of education offered in one of the oldest refugee camps in Djibouti.
I have a calm and engaging manner, and believe in teaching through kindness and patience, as well as forming a connection with each student. I strongly believe, through my own personal experience, that the interaction a child has with their teacher can have a long-lasting impact. As educators we have the privilege to spend extensive amounts of time with children, allowing us to gain an insight into their character as well as abilities. This not only allows me to build a connection with the student through our common interests, but also understand their behavior and triggers. My approach and relationship with each student is different. Some children respond best to a relaxed, humorous approach, while others may need a more nurturing and caring attitude, full of encouragement and praise. Regardless, I believe in creating a calm, non-judgemental environment, and a safe space where the students can express any work or personal concerns they may have. This approach has allowed me in the past to detect signs of anxiety and depression, which are surprisingly common even in younger students, as well as learning difficulties. My students feel completely at ease at picking up the phone and giving me a call whenever they need to talk. I also put an emphasis on emotional intelligence, encouraging the child to express themselves emotionally, as well as verbally.
Due to my experience of working as a governess, a tutor, and an advisor, I have a thorough understanding of working with children of all ages, which is rare to find. I have a degree from a prestigious university and experience of launching a company, which has resulted in a strong academic background, and impeccable organisation skills. I particularly enjoy working with families with young children, looking to build solid foundation to enter top independent schools and universities, over several years.
Academic background and experience
I have a degree in Biomedical Sciences from the prestigious King’s college London. I also took part in research and worked in hospitals abroad. While still at university, I was able to research and co-write a scientific paper, which was later published in BMC, an internationally acclaimed medical journal. I have experience of working in primary schools and have received teacher training through the organisation MadScience.
FAQs
"Why do you charge like a wounded rhino?" (If you haven’t asked me already, you are most certainly thinking about it)
I set my rate according to demand. I am a specialist in my field and have extensive experience of preparing students for the 7+, 8+ and the 11+, as well as GCSE’s and A levels in a short period of time. Tutoring requires no formal qualifications and therefore there are 1000s of tutors out there providing this service, without sufficient or relevant experience. I have over 1500 authenticated hours of tutoring just on this site, and majority of my clients come through word of mouth. Despite my high hourly rate, I have been consistently booked for the past 5 years. I do extensive work outside of my teaching hours and have a system of record keeping to ensure progress is monitored.
"Do you take on all students that get in touch?"
Unfortunately not! As a professional tutor, with a good client base, I simply don’t have the capacity to take on multiple families. Each project, if done properly, requires extensive dedication of time outside the ‘teaching’ hours – that’s the hours we charge for. This is also one of the reasons why I charge premium rates. If a tutor is charging £30 an hour, it is unlikely they will be able to spend extensive time outside of their teaching hours for preparation, and rightly so. Some tutors prefer to do 1-2 hours a week with numerous families, I prefer academic projects with a set, time sensitive goal, i.e. entry into an independent school. These projects usually require commitment to 1 or maximum of 2 families.
"Do you take on students based on their academic level in the relevant subject?"
The academic level of the student is usually the least important criteria when taking on new students. The behavior and enthusiasm of the student is a big consideration. The attitude of the parents/carer is also a big factor. I have had the pleasure of working with some incredible parents, who trust me to do my job and are looking for a stress-free process.
"How do I, as a parent/carer, pick the right tutor/education consultant?"
Do your research. Don’t hesitate to ask for CVs, references, DBS checks etc. If a tutor is affiliated with a credible agency, the chances are they went through an extensive background check. For example, I work as an advisor with an agency called Hutchinsons and I am featured on their ‘About Us’ page. Before being asked to join the company, my CV was thoroughly checked, I was interviewed, my qualifications were authenticated, and my referees were contacted.
(concealed information)
Be wary of any tutors with long lists of successes of entry examinations. These lists are normally inflated. Always ask for references and the possibility of speaking to parents of past students. Also, any tutors claiming to be examiners for independent schools are being dishonest. Independent schools mark their written examinations internally.
"Is your hourly rate fixed?"
No, it is negotiable. I set the hourly rate for each client, depending on the nature of the work, number of hours per week etc.
“How many students have you gotten into top independent schools? Can you provide detailed figures?”
I don't provide figures or lists of how many children I have gotten into different schools over the years. This is primarily due to the fact that the list would hold little importance or credibility, as they would be created by me and it would be very hard for me to contact every parent on the list in order to prove that I have gotten the student in. I think it is important to be able to back any claims that are made in reference to success rate. There are tutors who display an extensive list of schools and students they have helped attain a place in a top school. These lists will go as far as stating 10 students a year. As an education consultant and a tutor who has worked in the industry for 15 years, I can say this is simply false and dishonest. The maximum students I have taken on for a competitive exam in a year has been 4 and that was a strenuous year. Considering how many hours the exam preps require per student per week, as well as the fact you can realistically only fit in 1-2 students per weekday (due to school hours), who will probably require multiple lessons over the week, it is simply not possible to have worked with 10+ students per year. If a tutor states any statistics on their page, they should be able to prove it. Unfortunately, a large number of the figures are inflated and I simply refuse to be part of that. I would, however, be happy to give references and case studies of my recent students with the opportunity to speak to the parents, if required.
‘Have you been an entry exam marker for an independent school?’
Independent schools examinations are marked internally by their own school teachers, as they are strictly confidential. I have personally contacted St. Paul’s and Westminster to confirm this. They have both stated that their teachers mark their written examination papers and they have never outsourced the marking. The only exceptions are online exams like the ISEB pre-tests which are marked automatically by the companies providing the tests. Tutors claiming to be examiners or have marked private school papers are simply being dishonest. Although, it is possible to sign up to organisations such as Edexcel or AQA to be a marker. This is normally for the GCSE and A level examinations.
Do you recommend online lessons?
Online lessons can be extremely effective and efficient, although there are factors which need to be taken into consideration. Age is an important determiner of whether online classes are suitable for your child. I don’t normally advise online lessons for younger students as they benefit quite a bit from face to face interactions. Subjects such as entry examinations are also not as effective online, mainly due to the nature of the teaching as well as the young age.. GCSEs and A levels can be effectively taught online, with top results.

Perfect! Initial Consultation with Qandeel
Qandeel was very thorough in her explanations to the questions which I had and also offered good information on what to expect going forward in preparing for exams and in school generally. She took the time to listen to me as well as to my daughter and really tried to understand what our goals were from this first meeting. I appreciated her "initial consultation rate" and thought she had a calming and intelligent demeanor.
Outcome : We have agreed to set up a mutually convenient time to begin a few lessons. I would, at this point, like to negotiate a favourable rate first however.Perfect! Subject : Biology

Qandeel worked with both of our children for the 11+ and 7+. Also they have very different personalities, Qandeel was able to build a rapport with both. There was a significant improvement in their maths and English, even the school noticed.
We had been aiming for St. Paul's girls for our daughter. We were previously unsuccessful with older one, despite getting tutors. It seemed extremely difficult to find a professional tutor with genuine experience that not only knew the subject, but also knew how to teach. Qandeel was a professional from the start. She always turned up to lessons on time, kept record of all lessons and was able to help our daughter secure a place. I could not recommend her enough!
Our son was desperately struggling with Biology and just didn't enjoy the subject. Qandeel was not only able to help him achieve the top grade, but also fall in love with the subject as his confidence grew. We would definitely recommend her!
Qandeel was absolutely essential in helping my son gain a place at St. Paul's. We felt like we were in good hands from the start. We had worked with 3 tutors previously and had wasted a lot of time and effort in finding the right person! So glad we found her!
I contacted Qandeel for my son's 11+. He was scoring below average in maths and we had 7 weeks till the exam. Qandeel was able to design a timetable which allowed him cover all the key concepts and do 20+ past papers. I would highly recommend!
I would 100% recommend Qandeel, she's very reliable and enthusiastic about her role. Qandeel prepared my son for his 11 plus exams and my son absolutely loved her teaching style. He learned so much from her and as a result got into the school he wanted to!!
My daughter needed help with her Maths GCSE exams. Qandeel was highly organised and covered all the topics required for the exams. They worked on exam technique quite a lot. Qandeel was helpful and patient in her approach to tutoring my daughter as she went out of her way to cater the subject to her interests and engage her in areas that she would find exciting.
Thank you Qandeel!Qandeel prepared my younger brother for his 11+ exams. He was especially weak in English and was working at a low grade when she started working with him but over the course of time they spent together, he was able to achieve much better scores in his practice examinations. We are very appreciate of all the time and effort Qandeel put in to helping him achieve his results. I was thoroughly impressed with the commitment Qandeel put in when preparing him for his many exams as she went above and beyond what we expected and would be willing to provide extra support whenever required. Qandeel also built his confidence and enjoyment of the subjects and as a result, he was much happier in his school life. I would highly recommend Qandeel, she was a pleasure!
Qandeel has been helping my son Jacob to gets through his A-Levels in chemistry.
Not only was he able to get an A in his final exam, but he also became interested in chemistry, even speaking about it at the dinner table.
Her kindness and her interest in Jacob's well-being were also very impressive.Qandeel is an amazing teacher who is very patient, understanding and professional. She make sure to plan every lesson with clear goals. I could not have passed my Bachelor exams without her help.
Extremely patient and personable tutor who always takes the time to bring new concepts to life!
I would particularly recommend for those people who are struggling with complex ideas and need someone to help them progress quickly.Qandeel taught me English language when I moved to the UK from India. The main issues I had were that my grammar was poor, and I had a very difficult time making myself understood by third parties due to my strong accent.
Qandeel is able to teach maths in a simple, methodical manner aided by examples and practice questions making it easy for the children to understand and apply. She is patient, encouraging and works well with children of varying personalities and abilities.
I am really happy with how Qandeel worked with my 7 year old daughter. She was always punctual and reliable. Not only did she prepare my daughter for the exam, from the first lesson she incorporated interview skills like eye contact, team work etc. I would be very happy to recommend and provide written references.
Qandeel worked with my twins for over a year to help them with their 11+ exam of St. Paul's and Westminster as well as a few other schools. We had recently become aware that the boys were quite behind, despite attending a reputable private school. From the first lesson, Qandeel was able to build a rapport with them. They looked forward to the lessons. We saw a great improvement in their work, especially with their mental maths. She was able to teach them methods and tricks to answer questions quickly. Overall, I am very happy and hoping she will be able to work with my 7 year old in a year.
I have known Qandeel many years as a tutor and can vouch for her incredible teaching standards. She genuinely cares about her students, is knowledgeable about her subjects and extremely well organised and efficient. I would be more than happy to recommend her.
Qandeel is a great tutor who has been teaching for over 10 years. She is enthusiastic about her subjects as well as being knowledgeable and patient. I would highly recommend her.
Ms Qandeel Zafar was the best and most memorable tutor I've had. She clearly explained the subject's concepts with enthusiasm, fun energy and a sense of humour. She built my confidence and interest in Biology, which motivated me to work hard during and outside of our lessons. I'm grateful for all of her efforts!
Qandeel has a certain quality about her that she employs to bring even stubborn students, such as my son, onside. I cannot commend her enough, she is everything you want in a tutor: professional, diligent and patient.
Qandeel has helped a number of our struggling students with their 11+ preparation with great results. She recommended the right books and covered math, english, verbal and non-verbal reasoning. She dealt with some of our most problematic and struggling students, and encouraged them with kindness and patience. It would be an honour for me to recommend her anyone.
Qandeel tutored my 17 year old daughter in Maths for her entrance exams to University.
The sessions went smoothly. Qandeel was always punctual, reliable and provided a lot of support for any questions my daughter had outside tutoring hours.
I would highly recommend Qandeel as she has a wide knowledge in the subject, is very helpful and supportiveMy family and i hired Qandeel to tutor my younger brother in science over the summer for his entrance exam to a new school.
Qandeel is very knowledgeable, reliable and passionate about tutoring.
My Brother enjoyed his lessons with her, i would definitely recommend her for anyone who's looking to improve science skills.I used Qandeel to teach me Biology which I really struggle with. You could tell she was genuinely passionate about teaching and working with other people. She had a flexible approach to teaching which really helped me as I can get bored easily, and most importantly she made sure she was always available when I needed extra lessons, or just general help. I would recommend her to all.
Qandeel taught me Biology and chemistry A'Level. I was very happy with her teaching as she helped me understand the topics I struggled with and devised revision plans/strategies, all of which helped to improve my grade from a C to A. Furthermore, she helped me prepare for Dentistry interviews which I have been successful at as I am currently studying Dentistry at University of Liverpool.
When I arrived to England in 2009, my English was very archaic. I was unable to express myself properly, I was hesitating and I made many grammatical mistakes.
Qandeel was able to help me with English grammar, more more importantly bring me the confidence I needed to speak comfortably without being ashamed of making mistakes.View more recommendations
