Experienced EFL teacher, when not Acting, Writing or Guiding
An English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teacher for over 20 years! With a soft Irish accent and a lot of patience you could say I'm the ideal tutor FOR ALL AGES.
I was born in Ireland, reared in Spain and now I'm based near Fulham Broadway. I speak several languages in addition to English and Spanish. I've been teaching English since 1994. Initially, I organised my own part-time summer classes in Chelsea. In 1996 I researched, "What Makes a Good Textbook for Phrasal Verbs?." I interviewed publishers, authors, teachers and pupils. The 10,000 worded project resulted in a published article in English Teaching Professional https://www.etprofessional.com/phrasal-verb-books .
Upon getting my degree in 1997, I worked full time for years at the Callan School on Oxford Street. This was followed by years at Englishouse, a Callan Method establishment near Putney Bridge. I also taught IELTS, using my own methods, at London Centre College in Islington.
Following full time teaching, and thanks to a First in Information Management, I carved a career as a publisher. But I also kept teaching... spending several summers tutoring English to groups from Italy and Spain. Thanks to the agency I was with, I taught and organised activities/visits for groups of up to two dozen teenagers in Belfast, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Dublin, Oxford and Worcester.
More recently, I've been teaching English (with some improvised drama) to business people, in and around Madrid. My hobbies include screen acting, travel writing, social media (especially Twitter) and conducting guided tours of London.
