Enthusiastic &successful study skills/dyslexia support tutor
I very much enjoy 1-1 tutorials with students with dyslexia and other Specific Learning Difficulties. You set the agenda, so you decide what we discuss in tutorials.
If you would like support to achieve the grades your hard work merits, our tutorials should help significantly. They will be tailored to your needs and will, therefore, be related throughout to the course you are studying and the issues you raise.
Could you benefit from support in one of the follow areas?
Writing skills - writing essays, structure and planning, interpreting a brief, writing paragraphs, writing introductions and conclusions, using feedback, dissertation writing.
Reading skills - focusing on the key points, setting research questions, making notes.
Organisation and time management - getting down to work, avoiding procrastination, planning use of time, meeting deadlines, remembering appointments, increasing motivation.
Revision and memory - deciding what to revise, committing information to long-term memory.
Exam techniques - use of time, planning, question choice, answering the question.
There may another study skill, such as use of grammar or spelling, that you would like to discuss.
The main medium for our tutorials will be Skype or Facetime, unless you happen to live on the Isle of Wight! If this is the case, I can travel to your home for face-to-face tuition.
For over 12 years, I worked as a specialist tutor at the University of Portsmouth, teaching a wide range of study skills. As well as teaching undergraduates and postgraduates, I am also experienced at teaching students aged 16-19 and mature students.
Whilst at the University, almost all students I tutored were in receipt of The Disabled Students' Allowance. Hence, I have experience teaching students with Specific Learning Difficulties, such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and ADD and students with co-occurring difficulties.
