About Pauline
Experienced in videoconferencing and Skype lessons. It is important to maintain regular work even when attending school is not possible.
I am a native fully qualified teacher of French who has lived and worked in Cambridge and London. Passionate about languages and cultures, I do my best to share this enthusiasm with the students I teach.
I have gathered extensive experience over the past 20 years and currently work in a well known independent school in North London, teaching pupils from 12 to 18. All the inspections I have had in my teaching career have judged my lessons as "outstanding". I was Head of Department for 15 years, and am an examiner for two boards of examination at Advanced level. I currently organize and run a festival of French Drama; I also have experience in professional translation and interpreting.
I was lectrice at Trinity College (Cambridge) and have coached many students for Oxbridge, so I have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of entry requirements. I have extensive experience in interview preparation, and I have created many sample papers based on the MLAT one in order to give students extra practice for the written test too. Over the past 5 years, all but one of the students I have tutored for Oxbridge entrance have received a place.
I am a patient and fun professional, and know how to taylor a lesson to suit specific needs. I incorporate games, literature, cinema and theatre when and where relevant. I motivate and reassure students; they grow in confidence and make excellent progress.

Perfect! Very thorough. Excellent tutor. Highly recommend to everyone!!
Perfect! Great combination
Pauline has been a brilliant tutor for French 'A' level. She combines native language expertise with detailed knowledge of the syllabus and exam technique. She has been a great help in preparing for the oral and written exams, with insights into how to structure the oral presentation, and excellent knowledge of the language paper, the book and film. If you are looking someone to give you extra help with French A level, you will not do better than Pauline.

Pauline is just a brilliant French tutor. She was recommended as a superb and very experienced A level and GCSE teacher. She was the perfect person to help my daughter to maintain her French between A levels and University when travel options were limited by lockdowns etc. This was great for my daughter's fluency and confidence when she got to University. Pauline was also incredibly helpful to my son when he was preparing for University interviews. I have enjoyed sessions with her in order to revive rusty French from my schooldays; and she has given us excellent advice about language courses and universities in France.
Pauline is an AMAZING tutor - she helped me prepare for my successful application to Oxford University, and without her extra attention, dedication and care I really don't know what I would have done! She not only helped me improve my French, but she really made me fall in love with the subject and the culture in a way that the English school curriculum just doesn't allow you to. Outstanding.
Pauline helped by daughter go from a D level French to an A in A level and made her really love the subject. I recommend her wholeheartedly
Pauline tutored me during the spring of 2017 in the run up to my french A2, and I haven't a single bad thing to say. She went the extra mile when helping me prepare for my oral, and even helped me with the structure and research of two sides for three different debates for a debating competition (which my team won both arguments in ) without letting me lose my love of the french language. She doesn't just tutor to the exam board (although she can!) she teaches french for the love of teaching. In the weeks coming up to my exam, she was supportive an on hand ready to mark, set questions, advise grammar and made me think like an examiner. As an examiner herself, she really knows the syllabus back to front. I can't recommend a more enthusiastic and caring tutor who, if you put the work in, really gets you those results that you need!

Pauline was easily one of the best teacher's I've ever had. She taught me French at A Level and was a big factor in me choosing to study French at the University of Exeter.
Pauline is incredibly engaging, efficient, and patient. If I didn't understand something she would always have another way of explaining it that would help me understand. She doesn't give students answers, rather structures her lessons in such a way that the students can work them out and find them. The result of this is that the amount her students remember and retain is incredible. Learning languages can be incredibly dull and repetitive, but Pauline managed to consistently keep her students attention, and ultimately the grades that we all got are a testimony to her teaching.
She has a genuine love of all things languages and as a consequence is able to explain even the most obscure questions with ease. She demands high standards and effort from all her pupils, but is never unfair. She was unanimously respected by all her students because she brought the best out of us.
The quality of teaching I got from Pauline was far better than anything I received at University and I can't recommend her highly enough.
Despite leaving school 5 years ago, Pauline and I remain friends to this to day and I owe much of my enthusiasm and love of languages to her.Pauline was a brilliant tutor. She made things that once seemed so complicated so easy. She was engaging and kind and I wouldn't have been able to get through my French GCSE without her magnificent help.
Pauline was my tutor for 3 years. I used to struggle with the written aspect of the language but she helped me overcome my weaknesses. She is patient and thorough and knew how to motivate me as I decided to do French A level. I would really recommend her to anyone who needs help in French!
Pauline tutored me for the duration of my A-level French course, and also helped me prepare an application to study languages at Oxford- it was her inspiration and dedication greatly influenced my decision to pursue languages at University in the first place!
Not only was she an outstanding tutor, but she also suggested a really interesting range of subjects and novels to read that made my application stand out, and gave me a great grasp of French culture and literature. She is rigorous with grammar, and after a year of her tutoring I arrived at Oxford with a level of language that made my current grammar teacher think I had lived in France!
I would recommend her to anyone interested in French or who needs help improving grammar.View more recommendations
