About Paul
I am a highly committed and enthusiastic History teacher. Having taught History at a highly-rated girls’ secondary school in London, I have extensive experience of teaching a wide range of historical topics across all year groups at secondary level.
I will always ensure the my students enjoy the process of learning about the past by creating a relaxed and positive learning environment, enabling them to grow in confidence.
I have always achieved excellent results over many years working with mixed-ability students. In my last cohort of 21 GCSE students, examined in the summer of 2016, ten students achieved A* grades, and eight achieved A grades.
In my A level classes I taught and supported several successful Oxbridge candidates who went on to study History, achieving A* grades.
With the examination season on the horizon my experience of teaching exam classes leaves me particularly well placed to provide students with the type of highly focused approach required at this time of year.

I cannot recommend Paul more highly to your institution and I can confirm that there is no reason why he should not be employed in situations where he has responsibility for, or substantial access to persons under 18.
Paul is an excellent classroom teacher who has a real passion for his subject, which he conveys to his students. In an internal inspection, his lessons were judged to be outstanding. His subject knowledge is outstanding and he has written and delivered several A Level courses. Paul enjoys deepening his knowledge through wider reading and he is experienced at supporting students in the completion of coursework. He has an excellent record in relation to public examination results, including students attaining A* for A Level.
Paul creates a positive and calm environment in his classroom in which students want to do well. This is supported by exceptional classroom management skills and high expectations of students in relation to behaviour: he is firm and fair. His lessons are well planned and challenge students’ thinking.
He has experience of teaching across the 11-18 age range, including mixed ability classes as well as demonstrating that he is able to stretch the most able. This includes supporting students applying for Oxbridge.
Paul provides timely, detailed and constructive feedback on students’ written work that helps them to make progress. He is well organised at meeting deadlines and is extremely diligent, reliable and punctual. Whilst at Lady Margaret School, Paul managed a heavy workload, with several examination classes and the additional work involved in introducing new syllabi. In his previous capacity as a Head of Year, Paul demonstrated an ability to resolve problems and deal with difficult/complex situations with parents and students. He has proved to be an effective form tutor and has been allocated students with challenging behaviour: his consistent and tenacious approach has paid dividends with these students.
In relation to extra-curricular activities, in previous years Paul showed dedication in running the football team and arranging fixtures as well as running Activities Week trips to the Netherlands. He has also organised numerous departmental trips, including Year 9 visits to Ypres and arranging visits for our A Level History students at a London university to hear academics speak. He supported the school by attending non-compulsory events and he enjoys meeting parents on these occasions.
Paul was well respected by his colleagues and his students. He showed initiative and worked well independently but he also worked collaboratively with other members of the History Department. Paul works with a strong sense of purpose and direction and he leads by example. He is committed to the learning and development of all the students he teaches. Paul has the highest level of integrity. He would be a real asset to your team.I worked alongside Paul within the History Department of an inner-London secondary comprehensive school for 6 years. Paul was consistently regarded as one of, if not the best, teacher in the school. He is incredibly professional, hard working and knowledgeable. Paul is able to communicate complex ideas in a clear, concise and engaging way. He works well alongside his colleagues and with students of all backgrounds and abilities. Paul is always thoughtful and diligent in planning lessons that meet the needs of all learners and students always achieved excellent outcomes under his teaching.
