About Paul

Developing ability - Pursuing potential: Let's make progress

Once a struggling student, my life was changed forever when at 19 I became the pupil of a great Ivy League professor from the University of Chicago and La Sorbonne.

Sensing hidden potential (like many kids, I could speak well – but had problems concentrating and writing), he tutored me for 16 months.

Never too late – he not only changed my life but was the catalyst to these accomplishments:

Combined BA Honours (Double First) in English and Russian from King's College; being 1-of-2 scholarship students completing the MA in Creative Writing at East Anglia (Awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education, the UK’s most prestigious academic award) we interacted with the likes of Salman Rushdie and Nobel laureates.

But it was the skills I gained during this first early mentorship – the confidence to rapidly deploy critical thinking via superior reading skills; and, overcome obstacles via sound logic – that has ensured my ability to attain these “real world” achievements: become an officer of the Cambridge University Royal Armoured Corps, work as a journalist in Russia and India – and run my own communications business in Luxembourg.

Tutor and mentor

Written by Marie R
Paul has worked as a teacher, mentor and tutor for at least 5 years in Luxembourg. I got to know Paul as he worked in communications at the school where I teach - the International School of Luxembourg. He is extremely dedicated to helping young people and is very aware of the challenges and opportunities they face.
Paul had the highest recommendation possible from his last teaching post - teaching English to banking employees at the BY Mellon Bank. His students achieved outstanding results and loved his classes.

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to recommend Paul Comrie for any English teaching position. I had the pleasure of working directly with Paul during his time as an English Teacher at Cap Langues, and his tremendous teaching abilities never ceased to please both the clients and Cap Langues. I was Paul’s direct supervisor at Cap Langues for six months, and having worked together closely, I can vouch for his capabilities.

Paul’s incredible adaptability with all language learners led him to excel no matter what the level or background of the students. He always adapted his teaching depending on the wishes and needs of the students, which led to 100% satisfaction in his classes. He has excellent abilities to make students feel relaxed and confident to learn the language, which led to excellent progress made by the students.

He has experience teaching a wide range of English subjects and can adapt well to any professional requests.

Paul’s great connection with the students and relentless perseverance to always make them happy and improve their English led to him being one of the most trusted and reliable members of the team.

Paul is also able to work effectively with other co-workers, and he always contributed an enormous amount to any workshops or trainings.

With his abilities, adaptability, and dedication, Paul will make a great English teacher for your company. I have no doubts you will be exceptionally pleased if you hire him. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the above address.

Incredibly engaging, to the point, and vast expanse of knowledge

I requested help from Paul for a number of topics for History As and A2 (Spanish civil war, Italian rise of fascism, Germany 1900-1945) and he provided a wealth of knowledge on all of them. Aside from his expertise in these areas (which proved invaluable) from the first session Paul was keen to get to the heart of what needed to be done for success in my exams.

He was systematic about his approach, clear with information and able to aid my essay writing skills massively. Moreover, at all times he was positive and friendly, and this made the large quantities material covered enjoyable to wade through.

A substantial degree of credit must go to Paul for his hard work in the run-up to my exams, and a thanks for helping me along the way to the subsequent A* that i received in History A-Level.

Paul was an extremely helpful and knowledgeable tutor when I required advice for my university marketing dissertation. He discussed with me ways in which I could structure my dissertation and provided me with valuable content ideas whilst encouraging me to think for myself and generate my own thoughts. Not only does Paul provide deep academic insight, he is also a tutor that helps students to think outside the box and challenge the status quo. Therefore, I would highly recommended him to other students.

His knowledge and advice reassured me that I was on the right track and gave me a lot of confidence to start my dissertation and complete it in the given time frame. As a result, I achieved a first cl

It is with great pleasure I write this letter in support of Mr. Paul Comrie. I have had the opportunity to work closely with Paul during the fall of 2015, he helped me prepare my personal and professional statements for university applications. He has been always available and extremely kind, he helped me dig out my own strengths and told me that you can have the best idea and concept in the world, but it means nothing if you do not pay enough attention to how you present it and to every single detail. I already received three conditional offers for a MSc two of which are in the UK and the third in Germany, all exceptional institutions. I can say that I feel very fortunate that Paul helped me refine my application.

The most impressive aspect of Paul's teaching is his demeanor with students. He was able to present information on a wide variety of topics while projecting a composed presence, a great sense of humor and maintaining a positive and serious environment. He even helped on a Sunday evening.

On a personal note, I thoroughly enjoyed having Paul on my side. He is a dedicated teacher and professional who truly cares about his craft and students. He presents himself as veteran teacher despite his youth!
Thank you so much!

Prizes and Scholarships

Received the highest satisfaction index ratings from my students in Luxembourg at both Prolingua and CAP Langues, the two leading language schools in the Grand Duchy.

One of only 2 scholarship students for the prestigious MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia

I was one of 13 undergraduate students chosen to be published in an anthology of writers in Canada under the age of 25.

Erasmus scholar at the former British University of Malta in Valletta

King's College student representative to the International Banking Institute of St. Petersburg and Moscow State University (MGU), Russia.

Editor-in-Chief of Russian Studies Departmental journal as undergraduate student.

First Prize as crew member of German national yacht, for the Middle Sea Race - one of the premiere sailing competitions in the Mediterranean.

Undergraduate scholarship student to the University of King's College.

Other Qualifications

I completed a rigorous MBA style course at the Luxembourg Institut de Formation Economique, which qualified me to incorporate and administer an International Holding and run a SME company as Managing Director (a legal title) in Luxembourg's unique and highly regulated financial services economy.

In my role as a communications consultant, I have advised the senior figures from the Bank of China, ChinaLux (the Sino-Luxembourg bilateral chamber) and the Government of Luxembourg on English communications for international markets, with a special focus on ICT and globalised trade relations in the BRIC countries.

I have advised and developed the communications strategy for the University of Luxembourg on communications strategy and new-media services as they transition from a local institution into a global player.

I feel uniquely qualified to bridge the increasingly complex divide between the global economy and the relevance of a humanities secondary and undergraduate education. Taking Honours in English and Russian as an undergraduate student, and a specialised course in Creative Writing for my MA, I have found a unique way to adapt these skills not only to the publishing and new media market, but to find relevance in the fast changing world of globalised business.

I feel confident I can instill not only a sense of excitement in the learning process, but can help your child find his or her feet in real world scenarios that will help them in both the classroom and beyond. Whether applying for that summer language programme abroad or writing university and internship applications, my translatable skill set will help your child find that winning edge.
