Teacher Tutor in Drayton Abingdon

I am a qualified and experienced teacher, tutor and SENCO with 10 years experience teaching in primary schools in Oxfordshire from reception to year 6. I have taught in 5 schools and been a Learning Support in 4 schools for 7 years before becoming a teacher, both in private and state schools.
I enjoy teaching 1:1 and small groups of children, both maths and English and helping children to achieve targets and good progress by enjoyable multi sensory learning. I assess children and target their gaps and needs.
I have a SENCo qualification and experience teaching children who need additional learning support. I have safeguarding and first aid training, plus up to date DBS and insurance. I teach maths intervention in a local Academy school, give lessons over Skype, and 1:1 maths and English lessons at the homes of my current pupils.

Nicky has made a big difference in a short space of time.

Within a few weeks of working with small groups of children, Nicky made a big difference to the children's confidence with Mathematics. The children were able to apply some of the skills Nicky had taught them in class and were engaging more actively in our class maths lessons.

Nicky Holliss

Nicky worked at Sutton Courtenay CE Primary School for almost 5 years. During that time she planned for and taught children in small groups and 1-1. She assessed their progress rigorously and reported this to the class teachers and parents. Nicky is highly skilled in the teaching of maths and many of the children she worked with made good progress. We saw the children make huge leaps with their confidence and enjoyment of maths. During her last year with us, Nicky became maths co-ordinator for the whole school and supported staff with planning, assessment and resources.

Warm, caring and supportive

I am a headteacher of a primary school and Nicky worked both in my school as a maths intervention teacher and with my own daughter at home, employed privately. In all her work she always went the extra mile, really striving to work out what the particular barriers to learning each child had. She had a lovely relationship with each child.

After school tuition

My 6 year old daughter has been having after school tuition with Nicky for 6 weeks now and grace has come on so much. Her confidence has really grown and she has learnt so much already, Grace loves Nicky coming to see her and finds all her learning fun and never minds doing extra work with Nicky, as a parent I find Nicky very knowledgeable and I am always left with the tools and games to carry on the teaching in between her lessons. I am very happy we chose to use Nicky as our teacher.

Enaging and enthusiastic

Nicky is always careful about assessing the children she works with carefully. She works incredibly hard to cater for all individual needs of each child she works with and ensures they make excellent progress. Highly recommended. She taught a small group of year 1 children with the support of another adult. All lessons were planned in detail and varied in activities.
