I believe that each student requires a tutoring approach that matches not only their academic needs but also their personality. Having worked with children and young people as an Assistant Psychologist in a CAMHS service, I have learned how to put young people at ease, and form a collaborative and productive relationship with them within a short period of time.
Through various mentoring and tutoring roles alongside high school, university, and work - I have learned how to target material at a level that's comfortable for each individual student. I am able to explain concepts in various ways - especially with the use of analogies and metaphors drawn from everyday events to aid understanding.
Furthermore, my background in mental health has equipped me well with relating to young people experiencing low mood and/or anxiety, as well as teaching me the skills required to tailor tutoring to the needs of young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
My approach is based on finding a good fit for the student, and encouraging them to think independently and foster a sense of curiosity about the subject to deepen understanding and enjoyment. I believe that this approach teaches students to be more open minded, and allows them to being applying concepts across subjects - which is crucial to getting better marks across the board.
